i dont think system of a down is mainstream, they didnt searched the mass, the mass adopted them. they just do want they want and like they want, no mather what other people are thinking. Some tunes (especially on the new cd) wouldnt fit on radio for sure. People just listening to their singles dont really know what system is about. its beautiful and heavy at the same time. Sure, byob is poppy at times, just like vicinity of obscenity have a Disco part, Just like another have a rock n roll part, just like another have a reggeae part. That's what i like.

 

I love System of a Down's first Cd a lot, I have ever since it was out. I don't like the newer ones too much, there good and all but I just don't care for newer SOAD. Toxicity 2 was pretty interesting as was Steal this album. I dunno, I'm wierd I guess, I just don't like any System of an Up but the first one. Cahaz is right about the mainstream finding them though, System never was so hugely popular until the 2nd cd and now.

 

Systems style isn't mainstream but in the Chicago land area they play a lot of their music on the radio. On Mezmerize alone they play at least different 4 songs everyday. To me that's mainstream.

BTW, PhreQuencYViii I feel the opposite to you on Systems albums. I thought the first one blew big time. Then on their later albums the lyrics got more serious and I started to like them. Mezmerize just completely blew me away. I haven't heard much of Hypnotize yet though.

 

They use to (and probably still do) play Aerials EVERY FREAKING HOUR on the radio around here... talk about annoying.

it's not like I have any records that I listen to daily or so.. but if it is played some time I can enjoy listening to it.

 

It looks like you view that as a bad thing. People have different opinions, it's what makes the world go 'round.

the popularity they get annoys me, really. Because they are played alot, everyone are saying that they are mainstream, and that they arent good, because mainstream isnt good. I dont want to compare them to something huge, but thats the best exemple i can give: Metalica. Everyone loves them, but its not because everyone loves them that they are mainstream, or that they suck because a ton of other people like them.

I hate that. Because its played, people bash them. No mather what. Like if it was a bad thing. Like if you had to hate what a group of people like to be a real hardcore music fan. Thats just stupid. You just cant be "talented", plain and simple, anymore.

sometimes, i hate that so much that i'd like that they stop making videos and singles, and that they fade in the shadows a bit. Its not like they didnt merited it though, they've been around for more than 10 years now.

And its not like most of their stuff could it the radio, too.

Just to comment on people saying that "oldies are great" etc, yea, sure. Some oldies are great, but I think once again we are looking at things through rose-tinted glasses. For every 1 great song theres probably 100's that you deem as crap.

As for the "mainstream is crap" stuff, well I have to say I don't like it myself but hey thats just my opinion. I work as a DJ so I have to play the stuff :S , so I guess it would be kind of hard for my to tell my clients that their music tastes are crap........I'd like to see me getting paid then.

At the end of the day its just your music taste, everyone is different, it's what makes the world. Get use to it
