The God Awful Truth

Discussion in 'Off Topic Discussion' started by Grace Saunders, Dec 6, 2005.

  1. Modern music sucks. There is no creativity left. All of the best bands and singers are gone. Instead of REAL music, we get saddled with these crappy boy bands, rock bands and girl groups who seem to care more about their appearance than their music. Their CDs aren't even worth the plastic they come in. That plastic could be used to make toys to entertain my niece. Even the promotional videos are as lame as heck. No drama. No story. No class. Just a bunch of idiots screaming into microphones while pounding their guitars. Then they split-up and are subsequently forgotten about. Yet people are dumb enough to spend their money on them and cry about how they wish they could become famous as well.

I hate Metal, Rap, Pop, you name it. Honest to hell, I'm sick of hearing all this crap on the TV/Radio/Internet every damn day of the year. It does nothing but alienate and corrupt people of all ages. Britney Spears is nothing more than a manufactured cow; a vulture out to make a name for herself and that's it. She'll even go as far as getting married to some dope pal, then they got divorced the same day. She only did it to get in the history books. Tart.

What about the whole plethora of crappy one hit wonders that aren't any good? The only music I enjoy listening to with no shame is 80's music because it ushers in a striking timeless sound and beats the tar out of any CD they release these days. And I didn't even grow up with 80's pop groups. I was brought into this world in 1986 in January. Music has evolved a great deal since time began. Skip all that to 2005 and what are we left with? Garbage, that's what. They also keep doing crappy parody cover versions of songs that are timeless classics. Take that Cher song for example. They raped that song to death just for a few quid. They do it to every decent song on the planet. People like that deserve to burn. They should go get laid then disappear.

Sure, there's an odd song here and there that I may like, but there really isn't anything decent left. There's definitely something wrong with our world. I'd rather hound everybody until they get on MSN so I can force them to listen to the real deal. I have access to the likes of Phil Collins, Tears For Fears, OMD, ABC, Roxy Music, Erasure, Big Country, The Style Council, Level 42 and Fleetwood Mac.

Speaking of Tears For Fears, they were wrong when they said kick out the style, bring back the jam. It doesn't matter to me if groups don't have a number one hit during their careers. Most of the chart-toppers I've heard are very unworthy. They are not particularly bad songs, but they just seem out of place. I hate all these stations that restrict themselves to the likes of Madonna and Take That. It's almost as if they can't survive a day without them. Atomic Kitten deserve to hang for the way they rejected the help of Andy from Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark. They only became famous through his ideas. They really ought to be ashamed of their actions.

Music isn't the only form of entertainment that's being destroyed. Industries keep making remakes and updates of films that are better off remembered as classics. So far I've read archive and new stuff about remakes and sequels of Psycho, House of Wax, The Birds, Creepshow, Rocky and Rambo. You just cannot do those movies again. Damn, I hate the entertainment industry for becoming so disgraceful. They should be arrested for being so greedy. Although I can't see that happening at all.

This is not the "God Awful Truth" at all. Sorry to say it mate, but these are all based on opinions.

BTW, why was this not put into the thread a few threads below?

Congratulations, you're becoming old and out of touch. You just don't get new music.

Don't you remember driving with your Dad...who was of course always listening to an oldies station, because "music isn't good anymore?" Remember saying how that would never be you? Well it is, except it's you, so you don't realize it. You just think everybody else has gotten lame, while you're still mega cool.

Oh, I'm totally the same way, and I think most new bands sound/look (they all have the same fucking haircut) exactly the same, but I just get sick and tired of hearing that theres no good music around. I don't like most of what's new that much, but I have plenty of friends who love it, so it can't be all that bad.

The same could be said about peoples opinions on how games are these days as well. Some people on this board fit into this category...

there is actually great music made even today.. but the problem is that it isn't played at mtv/radio.. so you mostly don't even notice it. they just play the crappy one-hit-"wonders" that they get paid from the record-companies to play.

I'll say that not as many good games are being pumped out. There are certainly exceptions, though.

You seem to be missing 95% of the world's music, since you just described a bunch of stuff that you saw on TV.

Theres no great mainstream new music. But there are plenty of what I consider great bands out there, or great artists, creating great music. Who says it has to be Rock? Why not listen to some new Jazz or something?

Music quit being enjoyable the moment singing into a megaphone went out of style.

Yeah, I'm old. I can't identify with any of the new bands out there today. It's not that I don't like the stuff, it's just that I don't like it with the same intensity that I like the music I grew up with. Like back when you were a kid you would listen to a CD over and over and over again and love every song, then go out and buy another CD by the same artist and do it again. I just don't do that anymore.

Although I do like that White Stripes song. But it's becasue it sounds like the stuff I used to listen to back in the day.

But there could be another reason, as you get older your taste gets refined, as in after years of wading through crap you learn to enjoy the finer things in life. When you were a kid you wanted hot dogs and hamburgers, but now you can appreciate caviar, etc. So I find myself listening to stuff today that I never would have given a second thought to as a kid, like say Classic rock, blues, rockabilly, reggae, 70s funk, etc. Then you start looking at all the new acts out there and noticing how formulaic all the shit is.

So anyway, Grace might be a spammer, but he's right, about music anyway.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I have turned out almost exactly what you just said. For the past 5 years I've started to enjoy the finer things in life, too. I've started to enjoy classic rock, whereas before I would turn it off and listen to Incubus or 311. My lifestyle, to a great extent has been changing, mainly for health reasons, but the thing is I enjoy it. here's a good example most people can probably agree with. I remember as a kid I wouldn't eat my vegetables. I'd either stuff them in my pocket and when everyone is done eating I would get up and throw it out and finish my dinner off wiht a snack. Now its kinda the opposite, I voluntarily cook vegetables, instead of just eating unhealthy food. I also learned how to properly behave at a fine restaurant, what forks to use, etc. The true finer things in life.

    God damnit, I'm growing up[IMG].

I don't know who the other one is, but theres no going wrong with REM.

Oh, by the way, Both Queen and David Bowie rock...and then...when you mix em together, you get "Under Pressure" which totally rocks...but has been abused in advertising a little bit lately.

Another vote for the wonder of REM! (and bowie)

Anyhoo there is lots of quality bands out these days, gotta love anthony, interpol, bloc party, radiohead, the walkmen, etc.

There has always been a lot of crap out there, that is why we have a the choice and maturity to choose what we like. Hell there is nothing wrong with all that modern music I don't like - my little sister loves it, especially the commercial rap - but while I dislike it, there is nothing wrong with it, it is just not my cup of tea. Have a little injection of tolerance and it all will stop bothering you and you can get back to what floats your boat.

  20. Your post was very informative, up until the point where you said I was a spammer. How exactly am I a spammer?

Oh and David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust days are the stuff.:020:
