Why? Famicoms still sold well after the SFC was dead. PS2 still has the most varied library on the planet.
That would be how i would define a Hardcore gamer. Back on topic, the big N has found big success with the DS and its touch screen capabilities, the graphics arent amazing on the DS compared to the PSP, still it sells and will continue to sell, same is to be said of the Wii. We`ll no doubt see more Wii ports of DS top sellers a la Trauma Centre: Second Opinion, probably a game from the company that gave us Hotel Dusk and Another Code. A Daigasso band brothers game and many more which can be adapted from touch screen to Wiimote compatible. What we basically have ladies in gentlemen is two interactive systems from one company that can be used at home or on the move which both incorpoeate interactive elements and good old fashioned gameplay. Those of us really into gaming as Yakumo said will no doubt have a PS3 or 360 aswell, so there is no need to whine about the poor graphics the Wii outputs. If you don`t want to have to interact with a game and look like a bit of a dick while having fun then don`t buy one, but as sales have shown and will probably continue to show as more titles get released people are having fun and buying into it.
If Nintendo has their way, yes. Na, I'm just saying I don't see the Wii falling off during its lifetime. I imagine its going to wipe the floor with the 360 and PS3 in terms of sales, but as per usual the only games that really sell will be the Nintendo ones.
Never say Never. FF7 CC is out next month along with a new psp (japanese seem always willing to buy a revision no matter how little was really changed). Psp could posibly outsell the DSL for just only a week.
I have an American state of mind. It seems to me that Americans are always wanting bigger, better, newer. PS2 has been out for so long. The nextgen has landed and the PS2 is still way up there on the sales charts. I don't think Americans value older stuff the same the Japanese do. We're always tearing down old buildings to make way for huge sky scrapers. While in Japan they're preserving ancient temples and such. How were NES sales after the SNES died? The same as the Famicom and SFC?
Only people that dig their PSP are going to upgrade. They may pick up a few extra sales here and there, but the majority of the people w/ their DS (kids, and office ladies playing them on the train) are going to stick w/ their DS. I wonder if the Japanese finally figured out that FF really sucks. Friendly wager? I'll give you 2:1 odds for a small amount. Japan is actually way worse in this area than anyone. Read Dogs and Demons if you want the low-down. Of course there are issues w/ the book (he even goes off on a small 2-page tangent of how baby-ified Japanese kids are b/c they play Pokemon until High School while white kids play Myst and Doom) but all in all it's pretty accurate. If you want a good sum-up of the pros & cons of the book, read the 3 star reviews at Amazon. A large portion of the book is dedicated to the 'construction state' of Japan, and how basically the old Japan that he remembers (from the 50's) is long gone, nowhere to be found (even in Kyoto). They have destroyed it with concrete and vending machines. Very doubtful, but who knows (not me). The Famicom, FYI, didn't go out of production until sometime in the early 2000's. Some Famicom fan or someone not too lazy to search Google can figure that out,
Yeah, I second that. Pictures of Japan from before the war look so much better. Don't the Japanese themselves realise this?
Well considering the PSP was for the most part the second best selling system last year, I think it there are quite a few who love the system. As well Monster Hunter 2 sold over 1 million units in a 2-3 month span, I think FF7 CC could very well push the PSP.
Wow, Nintendo of Japan was producing Famicoms until 2003?? I did not know that! That's crazy. AND Super Famicoms as well. Where as Nintendo of America stopped producing NESs in 1995 and SNESs in 1999. That's really interesting stuff right there... PS I'll have to check out that book. Understanding differences in other cultures intrigues me to no end.
i think they were being produced in order to prevent the games from being pirated and the systems from being cloned.
According to the book: Nope My offer still stands. W/ a one-set tuner on there you have a really good chance. Japanese people love shitty TV.
I actually bought an AV Famicom at the Kobe Sofmap in like 2002, so I can attest to this. Y4900 if I remember correctly... Anyway, the Wii in Japan will rebound back in a huge way once Mario Galaxy comes out, and Metroid will likely do pretty well in Japan also, but better here. Honestly, I want to know where the Wii dating sim/H games are, it seems like it'd be the perfect platform for them and that would drive Japanese sales through the roof. I can just imagine some game where you're poking the chicks from Sakura Wars with the Wii-Mote semi-inappropriately, lol.
