In a weird and kinda nonsensical way IGN decided to realunch their DC site, including the re-review of every single game and some new articles to add more stuff. What ca I say? amazing, specially if you take a look at what IGN boards are like...
Its interesting they are going to put up that much time and effort for something like that. Speaking of IGN and Sega... One of their bloggers has caused people all over IGN to believe a Dreamcast 2 is coming out. When are they gonna learn?
Why is everyone attacking him for stuff everyone else used to do? Paulo, stfu please. Are you trying to make MORE members leave?
I personally appreciate this kind of thing in moderation, lets me keep up with information without tedious searching times, plus to be honest this topic pretty much relates not only to general gaming but increasingly to rare and obscure gaming. On topic horay.
Im just passing on how i personaly feel and how others feel. To quote Teamos... Anyways now we have a new Topic to stick all the latest rumour and general copy/paste job into should make things better. I dont think theres a huge deal wrong in posting a link to a story if you have something personal to say and add to it but....
Barring a couple of "village idiots", the Classic Sega Board and the Dreamcast Boards contain very intelligent and cool posters. Actually, most of the people I play on Xbox Live with come from those boards. Very tight knit communities. The rest of it? Morons. Edit: No offense to anybody or anything, but damn, this place is really starting to feel over moderated. This is General Gaming, there's no reason to condense everything into sticky threads that accumulate thousands of pages that no one can possibly search through or completely follow. Or maybe I'm just understanding this decision wrong. If this just exists for people to post links and no further thoughts, then whatever.
I don't mind shadowlayer posting news, and now we have a dedicated thread. Shadowlayer consider this your domain
I was just about to say that Indeed, yet morons-spammers like concura are still alive and kicking in here. Ermm, thanks?
A news post is a great idea, I kind of agree with Paulo, it was beginning to feel like any little bit of Kotaku or IGN news was being posted. Having it all in one place is a much better idea. No reason why there can't be a bit of discussion, but if the topic's supposed to be discussed it should have it's own thread.
That's why I posted it, since the sole fact that they are bringing back a commercial site dedicated to Dreamcast and making it all over again is a pretty big-ass anouncement. How many DCs news are we having these days anyways?
You know, every other post by _Skitzo_ was from Kotaku. The Internet...making us hypocrites since 1994!
What's to say? A site is running an editorial on Dreamcast games (the actual news is here, by the way), so go there and read it. They're not really re-launching the site, they certainly aren't "making it all over again", that's a massive exaggeration. You see the letters "DC" at the top of the page sitting next to "Xbox 360"? That's because the DC was out of the race long ago. What they're really doing is running a series of commentaries on all the DC's games. Not huge news (not really "new" at all) and nothing much to discuss, as evidenced by the fact nobody's said anything substantial on-topic yet.
Shiiiiiiiit I didn't fail the DC. I was buying 1-2 games a month (sometimes a week!) while it was alive. Great system!
Same here. I did my part, but it was all in vain. That's why I remain somewhat bitter towards Sega to this day. Of course, fanboys who got into the DC in 2001 when Sega was liquidating the unsold stock will disagree, but what can you do.
alchy, if you look at the state of the Dreamcast, how the mainstream remembers her (as an abysmal failure) the fact that is almost 8 years old and that it lasted barely 3 years, dont you think is pretty weird a site would even think of doing something like this? Most of them already deleted every DC article and review they had, IGN not only has them online, they are replaying most of the games. What else you want? a complete DC revival? I do too, but sadly is just impossible...
We're agreed on that. I don't think it's particularly weird, though. I'd guess they noticed that the traffic to their DC section has stayed been sufficient over the last year or so, despite the system's obvious death, to warrant investing something in the system. IGN runs on ads and paid registrations. If they can get people to look at their pages, they generate advertising revenue, and potentially convince people to sign up for their services. Whether or not they people involved are being paid (they say they aren't, it's kind of cool of them to do it in theirspare time), they'd surely be using IGN's resources and their offices. Their boss will have to have OK'd that. Basically there's a small amount of cash to be made for the site, and the staff are going to have a bit of fun at the same time.
wOW, first this, then assembler needs a paint job, better pass the vb licence donation plate again, ps3 is coming out soon, I mean........
I'm sure hypocrites were around way before that time, Internet is just exposing them more to the world. I think it's good to be updated on news of the console world. We're a bit dry of hot unreleased stuff information at the moment. Particulary the Dreamcast is a very intriguing subject, why such a great system failed? I bought mine is 2000 and was really pissed off when they dropped a year later just as everyone I guess. So what went wrong? - Poor games? - Bad management? - Poor marketing? - SEGA's decadence? I feel ditching the DC so easily was a big waste and it can't be all because of the PS2, how do we explain then the relative success of the Xbox then??? What's your take on that? Sabre
