The case was probably custom made. It has an Elemental Gearbolt relief on top: I'm quite sure the case contains the regular US version of the game. There's no hint on the case that would indicate something else. Something I've yet to clear up is the flyer that came with the Japanese version of the game. The cases that were sold on ebay were all given out at E3 1999 or so and 25 are rumored to be in existence. Mentioned flyer, however, shows a slightly different set (silver gun) as a first prize in a highscore competition (playing "Master Mode"): It doesn't contain the game obviously, but a plate (with the player's initials and score?) and according to the flyer there were 100 of them given out.
Yeah that is specific to the game. I would guess that the case was altered. Perhaps from a gun catalog company. They may offer to put company logos etc on the cases. It is way too expensive to have something like this built from scratch just as a promo.
To make them stand out (a little more than without at least) when they're sitting on the common Japanese shop's shelf. The spine-card provides more space to advertise the game than a CD spine.
Why the japanese have the best editions of the game ? the demos, the limited edition, packs ... Why ???
B/c they are God's chosen people. Actually it is an economic principle of "adding value"... although some argue that Japanese only "add cost" w/o any value. This goes for almost any facet of economics in Japan, not just games. If you shopping in a department store, you pay more, but your product is wrapped three times, you have someone open the door for you and help you into a cab (that don't get tipped). I personally could do w/o all that for a cheaper price, but there's a lot of old money in Japan that want such service.
The flyer clearly says that only the top 100 got the attache case + a plate with their ranking on it. The gun, game and memory card were not included.
But if we're talking about rare PS1, but about that Japanese burger game? It's always extraordinarily expensive when I see it. Or the exclusive Nyanja Town game that Namco made.
Abe '99, boy, I've been looking for that for a good price for quite a while now. Abe-a-gogo is incredibly cheap, that's what makes no sense to me, was it not very popular over there?
I want to say somewhere between Y4800 and Y6800. It wasn't in a case... I'll be back on Monday and check for you.
Is there any copy of Thrill Kill out there, or did the game has been cancelled just before being produced?
Nope, never released. There is however a BETA available along with a complete, uncensored version floating around.
There are three versions that i got.... The complete/full version and two beta versions. All three are quite different from each other.
A few idea's (off the top of my head) would probably be Suikoden 2, Tomba 1 or 2, the Reboot game (back in the day), and some of the rarer Square rpg's. "Rarity" is a tough thing for the PS1, because of PSN emulation. Look at Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for the PS2/Xbox. The moment those came to 360/PS3, the PS2/Xbox versions dropped immensely in pricing, because the scarcity is gone. Tomba 2 is 70$ used on Amazon (it's probably cheaper on ebay, don't care), and 300$ new. If it was on PSN tomorrow, it'd probably become 15$ used, because it's not scarce anymore. Mind you, I'm only talking about retail games, not the truly arcane stuff you guys can come up with.
