So I went to Seaworld here in Orlando, Florida, USA, and found something out of place in the Wild Arctic attraction...

Yes, that is the first model Phillips CD-I. How did it get there? I have no idea but it was cool to see one in person. If they ever decided to sell it, it may become the most expensive CD-I due to it's connection to Seaworld. It's on a shelf near the Sea Lions and the kid's ice climbing area if you are visiting the park in the future.

So that was completely unexpected. What is the most unexpected places you have seen a game console?

they are/were probably using it to play a videocd. Looks like all that equipment is from the 80s/90s.

Told my boss to give it to me if they tell him to get rid of it and the dumb ass threw it in the trash, controller, VCD card and all. that was AFTER he said he would give it to me. it was that exact same model.... i wanted to kill him.... lol

It was just used for decoration. They have a lot of 80-90s tech in there that is just for decoration. It wasn't hooked up to anything, not even powered on.

I was always amazed the fairly poor grade school I attended, got a CDI that they barely ever used, for playing a few videos.

I mean, it's probably used for decoration now. Was this a behind-the-scenes area or an exhibit?

I was visiting an old lady's home with a few of my classmates as part of a charity. We talked with her a bit, gave her a few things and when leaving I saw that she had an Xbox 360 with a mountain of games, properly organized in the shelf.

It was probably her kids or grand kids console, but it was very weird seeing it there. Who knows, maybe she was a granny gamer ?

It was in the exhibit on a shelf with some old electronics. It's in the 19th century shipwreck area.

Hmm, my thought is that they used it for video the way others have mentioned. When it become outdated, they salvaged it by making it part of that exhibit. It's probably been kept in pretty good shape, so I'd think it would still function. I want to see the videos it played and any other software they have.

Situations like this pique my interest. Mainly because I bet large amounts of consoles are just thrown away when they become "outdated." Cool software and obscure peripherals are probably lost to a dumpster.

Hmm, our school used Laserdiscs for that (I actually got my Laserdisc player because my college (where I worked as an AV tech) got rid of them finally).

In a carpet store a few streets away I found a famicom twin for $35.

Also a front / vertical loading record player but he wouldn't sell that to me :-(

Last time I went to Disney they had Dreamcast games you could play. You can guess how long ago that was.

The same thing happened to me with one of my first jobs. And I even offered to buy it too!
On the topic, I saw Gamecube, PS2 and XBOX kiosks at a local McDonalds during early 2002 to late 2003.

I remember seeing somebody play it in a store and I thought the coolest part was that you could buy and drink a can of soda. Simple pleasures.

They had Gamecubes at the one in Woodfield like 10 years ago.

Also I remember a kids centric barbershop had either N64s or Gamecubes.
