Actually a lot of people say that the name Playstation is bad as well, because it sounds like a kindergartners activity set.

Playstation and Xbox may be boring names, but still they arent as terrible as Wii.

As much as it pains me, this may be the death of Nintendo. Sure there may be a big Nintendo fanbase, but even they cant save them, unless they form some sort of group whose plans are to buy 4 or 5 Wiis / REVOS a person and as many games as possible to save Nintendo. However, Microsoft did say they might leave console games after this, so thats less competiton for Sony and Nintendo.

I'm with Fabrizo on this one. The level at which this has hurt my support of Nintendo is at this point beyond my own comprehension. I haven't really sat down and played a video game in well over a year now. The revolution was perhaps going to change that. I was going to buy a revolution and if for any reason, just to support The big N for doing the right things for a change. The whole Revolution thing almost brought a tear to my eye and for a fleeting instant it reminded me of why I loved the game industry.

I'm strongly opinionated. It's true. I'm sure most people will not agree with my thoughts on this.

I will not be buying a Wii, Fuck you Nintendo.
When you are dead and gone and but a fond memory to the world I will regard you as I always have and nothing will have changed in my world.

I love it when people dis-continue support because of a terrible name choice.

Ill still be picking one up as its the possible gameplay that interests me. I never really thought Revolution was a good name either. It was too gimmicky but It was a lot better than Wii.

Well a name change isn't that horrible compared to what they did to the gamecube's look upon unveiling. I personally know many people who were turned away from the console just for its mighty gay looks in purple, with a love handle attached to it's behind.

That's for sure the dumbest name for a console i ever heared! But it totally fits in Nintendos concept of keeping things simple and attracting new players.

It's a cheap console for simple fun-games with a dumb name and a crazy controller for gamers that usually don't play. If i weren't working for a videogame magazine i wouldn't buy it!

As bashing without being constructive would be lame: Nintendo would have done better by just naming the revolution "Nintendo". That would have been great - just like NES/SNES and Genesis times when everyone had either a "Nintendo" or "Sega". As no one has a "Sony" or "Microsoft" today they would have done something either cool and retro.

Nintendo hasn't had my support for years. I was going to buy the Rev because, in my opinion, if they fail now, they may never get another chance. I was giving my support to show that the last of the 'old school' could survive and hopefully change the industry for the better. It's not just the name change that has me miffed here. It's more of the mission statement and the fact that just when things look good for them, they do something irrational and foolish.

I'll still get one, but I hate the name choice. Im interested in how the controller will be like, too.

Is it just me or does Nintendo know how to make its fans feel like crap better then any other gaming company?

That is the lamest name for a game system I've ever heard. This better be a joke.

Sweet. I didn't get to see the dev kit but I got to see the Wii Controller and hold it. That thing is light and smaller than I thought it would be. It's about 5 inches long. How I got to see it is because I found out a local developer here is working on a Revolution game, thats all I know. The wii is short and sweet, IMO. Also got to hold a DS Lite, too.

TOnight I went to a local IGDA meeting and the guest speaker is the president of a local game studio here in my town. From that meeting, I'm seeing the Wii as a true gaming console, not a multimedia station like the 360 and PS3 will be. It will be cheap. Easy to program compared to the 360 and especially the PS3. Nintendo is basically making a console that will have fun games that are easy to pick up and get into.

Depending on the games that come out for it, I might end up getting one.
