I still refer to the 360 as "xenon"... i'll just call the Wii "Revolution".... and then punch miamoto in the face for letting them name the console like that.

Let's hope there's no other unpleasent surprise relating to the DVD-movie playing capabilities of the machine - Come to think of it, the revolution will probably be the first and only DVD-player that doesn't support AudioCD playback. Wii better have progressive scan support for DVD-playback or Wii will throw it out the window it crawled from.

100th post on the subject ^_^

according to "insiders" over at GAF the decission was 100% NCL in Japan.. NOA and NOE had absolutely NO input whatsoever.... They really couldnt give two ***** about the west, all they care about is taking Japan by storm, and the name is probably "sugoi" to the nihonjin ... I swear when I go over this summer, im getting the Train to Kyoto, and im gonna kick some ****ing ass and take EVERYONE involved in this decisions name so that I know where to send the mail bombs >:/

    Funny.

OK, it might be just me or my fanboyish ways, but has anyone else when they watched the Nintendo flash animation started thinking, "Maybe it'll be OK. It's just a name"?

I think there's hypnosis in the flash animation. :eek:h:

I would say that the console name would stay revolution based on this latest read. If you have visited nintendo's official website, it's http://revolution.nintendo.com - that said, i did go to some website registering providers to see if "wii" and its related names were taken. Take a look for yourself at www.register.com

EDIT: make a domain whois on www.wii.com to see who got it and WHEN, and you ll soon realize that nintendo would have made a good offer by now.

Interesting. It does not appear that it has been processed yet, but that does not mean that it has not been filed. Judging from Nintendo's past actions, I really do not think that they are "smart" enough to use a viral marketing campaign like this. Granted, I will be happy if they have a different name ready (assuming that the real name isn't wiitarded too), but I really do not think that this is the case.

Just to note, Nintendo always trademarks their systems with the word "Nintendo" in front of the name (i.e. "Nintendo DS"). As of yet, their are no "Nintendo" trademarks for the new system.

I'll jump on board for the hope that this is all a marketing ploy...but I don't really believe it.

Wow, folks. Just imagine all the chest bumps and high fives going on at Sony and Microsoft over all this.

There's always the possibility that the answer lies somewhere in the middle. Nintendo announced something extreme, and if people went with it, they d keep it, if not, they d pretend it was a marketing trick. Either way, the possibility of a win is large. I d lean towards Revolution for the name incase it is not Wii, although a classic name such as N.E.S, and all it stands for, would be better - it is going to be a Nintendo Entertainment System after all.

i guess i've been hypnotized too.

I hope its viral marketing, just to shut everyone off now. Wii? Revolution? I dont care. I mean, so what? Let it be. Of course, if i had to choose i'd take Revolution, but ..

being mature doesnt mean one can't enjoy phallic and urine jokes - we're boys, and we ll always be entertained by stuff like that, no matter the age.

I'm seriously finding it hard to believe that nintendo is going to name their next console after a euphamism for urine... Translation issues be dammed, it's just not a kid friendly name.

well if they "developed" the name in japan then they may just not know. There's been tons of products marketed under a name that had different meanings in different languages.
