Guys - Its either a case of love it or hate. I happen to love it, and it seems the majority of you are hating it because its popular - Very similar to how many of you won't touch anything with EA on it.
In my mind, they are absolutely fantastic books - the last hundred pages kept me up until 3am last night (despite having work the next day) because it was a absolutely fantastic page turner - I could not put it down.

As for the people dishing out spoilers at the midnight launches - wankers. The lot of them. I queued up at midnight (after having been at various pubs mind you) and the majority in the crowd were kids. Its almost acceptable to spoil it for adults, but when you consider the number of kids waiting doing dickheaded things like that just isn't on. The reason I've kept out of this thread was because I didn't want any spoilers - and I come back to find its a bash Rowling thread!

Anyway, point made. Phenomenal book - you should try them all before you bash them - we're all adults, we should all be able to manage a few 600page books!

I find it amusing that so many people are flying off the handle over harry potter, LOL jesus people fucking relax its a book & nothing more it's not like your forced to read it if you don't like it. Leave the soapboxes at home.

Personally i love the series it provides another nice escape from reality, just like videogames do. I don't give a shit if it's not the "done" thing to read it if im not a kid, i don't care, i don't let people dictate what i should read or how i should act.

JK Rwolings is famous for one single book series. But Harry Harrison, has made the book called "Make Room Make Room", which is the basis of the film Soylent Green. And he has made one of my favourite bookseries which is The Stainless Steelrat, but has he sold out ? no he has made so much stuff, and it isn´t all only Science Fiction. But he has also written the "The Deathworld" series. And alot of other works.

check the wiki out about him.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Harrison

    Or his own homesite

    http://www.harryharrison.com/

So if you ask me, then I am happy about NOT reading Harry Poofter (no offence to any gay members). JK has made 7 books, and she has become a billionair , and for what ? 7 fucking books. Which has fucked peoples minds. Heck even the newspapers has said, it made peple very screwedup. I would rather buy an old Danish fairy tale book by H.C. Andersen, and enjoy its sad fairy tales, and for that matter read an old dusty cookbook. Which is in my mind more intelligense bringing. Than Harry Potter. Or enjoy the black and white version of The Phantom in Danish which was up untill the some place in the 90´s in black and white. Because the publishers here were saving money by printing them(not just that comic magazine but alot of other comic magazines too) in black and white. But I only see that as a great thing. Since then you could actually see the talent of the artist who draw that comic in the magazine. So again Harry Potter is to me way overrated shite , and well I would love to have seen a Retro Core review of one of the games. Since then Yakumo-sama could have said , that maybe the game was better than the book or vice versa. Or maybe even make it "Shite Of The Month", if he hated the game made over one of the films and so forth.

Depeche Mode are sellouts, that is why I am NOT a fan of them anymore. But still the fans are screaming over them, and I can hear David Gahans voice cracking like a Rice Crispy on a bad morning with milk on.

seems like your more pissed off about an "inferior" series that has become popular versus a series that you deem superior

I'm not disagreeing with you, there's plenty of series/things that i'd love to see mainstream, though not everyone thinks the way you/i do, and not everyone can appreciate the subtleties of certain items, so something that you find appealing, many more may not...

...I think that's what appeals to so many about Harry Potter, it's not something that requires a PHD to fully grasp, or require 8 hours to understand the underlying message of the last chapter you read, its a simpler series that can appeal to a much broader audience than some books

RGGG: me pissed off over that Harry Harrison hasn´t become a billionair ?

Don´t be fucking ridiculous, I couldn´t care less. To me right now I am fighting to get my point of view out. And that has nothing to do with envy. Give me a fucking break, there are more to it than money.

Why are you "fighting?" It's a book dude. Say what you have to say, but there's no need to be hostile.

Hostile is something I am when I am angry, and that I am not at the moment but I think hysteria is something I can curse about. But fighting is a great thing, even in writing. And well, hey it is only a book. I am not going to read :) just like the rest of that damn series lol.

And Taemos, I think fanatism. And fanboyism to the extreme is a bad thing, even when it comes to consoles. Heck once I thought, that the Saturn was the biggest and coolest 2D console, but then a person said. It wasn´t completely correct, even though it was a smashing great machine and alot of other stuff. And well in that thread I fucked up. And couple of hours later, I apologised to him. Because I made a stupid mistake. But I am not taking back my curses. I am just saying, that fanboyism which is essentially fanatism. Is bad, and even I have to catch myself for not doing stupid stuff. But I have learned alot, by not being fanatic about anything. Since being too narrow minded does make your horizon smaller, instead of broaden it.

I understand the point WolverineDK is trying to make, Harry Potterism is probably only equalled by Haloism, it's the unwavering "I am right" attitude that pisses people off more than the fact a load of adults are trying to justify themselves for reading a kids book.

eleven inches? jesus christ on ice skates, now that's a big wang.

on the topic of -ism, the only movement i support, (to a reasonable extent) is Star Warsism. The first trilogy has been burnt into my head so badly that i refer to the movies almost every single day without even noticing.

Lord ofhe Rings, Harry Pothead , The Matrix, Halo and Mary-Kate and Ashley never really captivated me.

heheheheh now that most of you think I am nuts

the truth about the book.. ya it is aimed at kids and is a recap of old ideas but most movies do the same thing. They all follow same idea be it a book or movie. The good point is at least the book gets kids reading and in the end thats the important part. Will I own the book no but as my kid gets older if she wants it than I would buy it.

Almost everything is a rip off of almost everything, so I don't really get the recapping of old ideas complaint. I'm not a pooter fan though.
