That is nothing. Somewhere between 10 to 15 grand. I have already bidding on this. 10 grand is my final offer due to broken flip case. I would increase more If super magnetic selling it.
That was limited and now I'm obsessed with it so Im risking to increase more from original budget. No, I'm craftsman and demolition at John Mould at UK. I get paid very well.
To be fair, after your "selling" of RE 1.5 to yourself, being banned and then changing your name - I dont believe a word you say.
Off Topic Durr ! you don't say .Of course you don't have to believe me.. it is your own opinion which never ask for one, so ignore and move on and Why should I care about you believe or don't believe, I'm interesting getting this prototype If I'm Lucky. Change my name ? I change my name just under three weeks ago which has nothing do with that silly little prank 1.5 thing. To be fair, I could have start a new account If I want to and I did not get banned. Only warning.
This is what I get for being away for over a week: Amazing and tragic news all in one thread. I'm not sure what I should be feeling right now. I'll admit I teared up a little.
I never visited this thread for some reason... great to see both protos surface but also incredibly sad to hear about Monkfish - I remember the drama with Donny who sold the first 'not working' copy, Monkfish posted at the tail end of that fiasco but for some reason no one actually seemed to take notice when he came along and said he had a working copy of Geist Force - I was the one who pointed out that it might be a good idea to contact him at the time - I guess people were burnt out from the previous sale that didn't work out to really take notice - that's what it felt like. I'm just sad to hear that someone as generous as Monkfish isn't with us anymore - if it wasn't for him Geist Force would surely still be very much lost to the mists of time. But still, as someone also observed - I'd rather have Monkfish here than Geist... Still, as long as this place exists - anyone researching Geist Force will know about Monkfish and what he did... he'll be remembered for a long while yet. It would be a nice gesture to name a forum after him to keep the memory alive. I don't really feel much about the Pluto - although I was never that excited about the Saturn (yeah, call me a heathen!) it was always the Dreamcast that made me sit up and notice Sega again after the Genesis. The Pluto system really does look like a chunky Saturn - on a par with the Hi-Navi Saturn, a curious variation of an already established console. A piece of history? Sure, but $10,000 - $15,000 ? I guess it makes sense as an investment - but what might be an easy sale now may well prove to be quite difficult down the line when all the fuss has died down. Still, it's worth what someone is prepared to pay for it so there's no real estimation of value - it might $10k now... $5k tomorrow... $15k in ten years from now - it's impossible to really fix a price. I do have one question - we've all seen the stacks of discs in Sega US offices - I'm still curious to know about Far Nation - a rumored online RPG that never appeared for the Dreamcast. I asked Donny, I believe I asked Monkfish iirc - but no real reply - yet there's the disc sitting in Sega US offices.
I'm glad to hear Monkfish is remembered fondly. He was a great guy. arnoldlayne: I remember hearing the name "Far Nation," but that's about it. No light to shed on the matter, unfortunately.
As a Sega Saturn fan Like I am. Feels very great and Pluto prototype finally see the light again especially takes before the Sega Saturn and which wasn't success at the time. Other hand it sad someone has passed away by cancer. Surly it got to be the best news on this site for long time, Which I wasn't expecting to see this, hopefully new comers learn more about awesome history of Sega Saturn back in the days.
Thank you for sharing both the Pluto pictures and the sad news. The news is terrible. I'm really sorry to hear that Monkfish died. Thanks for bringing it to our attention. Whilst you obviously didn't know, it's a shame in a way that these weren't handled as two separate threads - keep the happy news happy and the sad news sad. Still, you weren't to know we didn't know I agree that without Monkfish's generosity, Geist Force wouldn't have come to light as DonnyK had done a disappearing act after the disc turned up damaged without issuing a refund. However, as Kev rightly said, it does make the Pluto news rather bittersweet. I would much rather have a community member live a long live as a friend to us all, naturally. Even putting aside the value of life, people like yourself and Monkfish have something that I for one value more than physical items - knowledge. Something as small as a few tales of everyday life in Sega over a few drinks is a fascinating experience. I had hoped to talk to Monkfish for my research one day. It's upsetting to hear a valued community member lost his life so young, taking those memories with him and leaving his children. My condolences to his family and friends. As for the Pluto - very nice! I respect your not wanting to take it apart or try disc swapping on it - I wouldn't want to accidentally damage something made of a rather fragile material, either! Wow, that's some truly terrible reporting! They fail to mention ASSEMbler as the source, merely referencing a forum user posting pictures, and steal the pictures without credit. A little better.... if you count referencing Assembler Gamers as the source! :\ Again, using the photos without permission, though.
Yeah, it might have been a better idea to separate the threads. Sorry about mixing the bitter with the sweet. I've never really had a high opinion of games journalism (that's another thread in and of itself), but it's definitely funny to see how sites have taken the info posted in this thread and twisted it a bit, or added their own speculation. But it's been better than I thought, actually, and it's great to see so much interest.
I hope a good collector, who takes lots of pictures ect, gets it. It would be a loss to the community if it went into a private collection where it was just locked away and never seen again.
I've never understood private collections completely. I mean sure there's the investment strategy, but if I had a massive collection I'd want everyone to see it! While I didn't know Monkfish myself, being struck down before your time by any illness is a terrible fate. I know I'll be playing my copy of Geist Force with the hope that he may rest in peace and his family stays strong through this dark time. :sorrow:
Kotaku ALWAYS steal images, and always twist stories to just get the clicks. You should be able to contact the writer by twitter or something. It's just plain wrong, Apparently this forum is called ASSEMblergamers... lol they are so stupid. Although Druid is right, with references here is correct, but at the same time they didn't exactly mention what the correct source is. I don't get why the story got changed in the process :/ It's clear they didn't read this thread from page 1, they could've at least mentioned this was Monkfish's system to begin with as it's such a sad story what happened.
Not at all. Right way: A user at the ASSEMblergames.com forum, Super Magnetic, has shared these photos [link]. Wrong way: Revealed by forum user Super Magnetic, who apparently worked at SEGA throughout the tail end of the 90s, the SEGA Pluto was an online enabled SEGA Saturn. (using "forum user Super Magnetic" as a link to this thread without referencing the site) If you want to be a writer, ALWAYS QUOTE YOUR SOURCES! That aside, the sentence reads poorly. "A forum member" doesn't tell you WHAT the forum is. It would be even better to explain the forum's structure for the uninitiated. Likewise, they should at least put a photo credit or, preferably, ask permission to use the photographs. It's disgusting that they just steal photographs without permission. Any proper journalist would go to a stock image library and pay for the relevant images, or strike a deal with the original photographer. If you were to a Getty Images photograph online and they found out, they would charge you hundreds for unauthorized use. Hundreds of Pounds Sterling, that is. I have to agree with Super Magnetic, games journalism isn't really held in high regard - perhaps due to the very nature of it traditionally being young people who have had little professional experience. Not that all games publications are bad, but it is sad to see the sector misrepresented by institutions and journalists whose basic etiquette leaves a lot to be desired. No worries about the mixing the rough with the smooth - I don't think you were to know and it's got us all talking!
