I'm still at a loss of words over all of this. Well within driving distance of Modesto where Pluto #001 is, wonder if I could convince them to let me eyeball it.
Enjoying this to-mod-or-not-to-mod debate! I have no plans to mod though -- want to keep her pristine. Ryo: That floppy is very interesting. it says "for E2P access" there in the middle... any idea what E2P is? And forgive my ignorance, but what is Kira Term exactly?
Don't mod it , keep it original. Don't let anyone talk you into modding it. If you want a modded console buy a Saturn.
Pretty funny people thinking that Magnetic would mod the Pluto... Don't wanan go too much off-topic here, but the "saturn ring" is not what I wanted to say. I'm fairly sure there's something like an ip.bin on saturn discs, read the first 16 sectors of any retail discs. It should be trivial to mod an iso to make it looks first-party or third-party, as in changing a single byte, maybe a word. The saturn ring can be read but not burnt back afaik. I dumped it myself on both saturn and dreamcast and it seems to be the same "main idea" behind both: A8 and 59 bytes, which correspond respectively to EFM paterns with the most and less pits form the logo which is required to authenticate a genuine disc. There might be µmirrors involved according to a forbidden document, but I didn't tell you. Which brings me back to 2007 there: bit.ly/ZDfrLS ah youth! The legend says people hired by sega to test the saturn copy protection managed to reproduced the pattern, but you should take this with a grain of salt. If you wanna discuss in more detail, pm me to avoid hijacking this wonderful thread.
@Super Magnetic im not sure if this will make this to u or not. i made this account yesterday in hopes that i could say thank you. but it wouldnt let any of my messages/posts go through cuz im a new menber. any whoo thank you for posting your pluto i had no idea what i had been sitting on for soooo long tytytytyty
These are some 2 good questions If you worked at SEGA of America at that time and don't know about tthem, the only chance is that these were japanese-only projects, so it'll be very difficult to know more about them I guess
Calling them "retarded" because they're ignorant of what something is, well... retarded. BTW, it appears Unit 01 is now for auction: http://www.gamegavel.com/item.cgi?show_item=0000752122
Looks like we might get a better idea of what kind of "outrageous numbers" one of these can go for. Looking forward to it.
Less than 6 hours into the listing and already 7600$, reserve not met... I guess Super_Magnetic will be following this auction with great interest!
I wonder what the reserve is. My guess is that this auction should be able to reach at least $20,000.
Yes, needless to say I'm watching the auction with great interest. I took a look at the pics he posted, and the device is identical, except that mine actually has the full "Sega Saturn" logo text as well, and has a Pluto-02 sticker. This would lead me to believe that his was indeed the first, and they didn't print the full logo on it for some reason. There's no Pluto sticker on it though so we can't know for sure. (I'll also be interested to see if any other Plutos surface... I doubt it, as I was told by a reliable source that only two were made, but time will tell I guess.) Blai, I didn't work at Sega at the time it was made, but this was definitely an American production.
Thanks for posting this Super magnetic! We really appreciate you sharing the information with the community!
I'm gonna put a bid in for $12,000 dollars and when I win I'm going to post a video on here of me not modding it!
Thanks for posting this up Super Magnetic, I love the sega Saturn and seeing it in its early form is great!
