The rise of boastful stupidity

I have a Facebook blocklist 648 people long.

I use a lot of of the buy and for sale groups as they tend to be more successful than eBay at shifting certain items. The sheer stupidity of the under-educated young stay at home mums in this country who sit on Facebook all day long buying each others shit, boils my blood, and so I'm building an anti stupidity filter in an attempt to prevent myself from ever having to meet these people. It may make me sound like a completely stuck up snob but I really don't care. My time on this earth is finite and I'm sure as hell not wasting it with morons.

Last night I saw a young woman arguing with the site admin because she wanted a rule set up whereby whoever commented on a item for sale first, with any character on their keyboard, had an absolute right to the item regardless of the sale outcome. She just couldn't grasp that the admin or group had no grounds to mess with the sellers freedom of choice to sell THEIR stuff to whomever they please. As soon as people started politely telling her why she just wrote (direct quote including punctuation) "well i dnt argee, this group is shupid and i deemand to be removed frm it asap!!!!"

Sadly this isn't an isolated incident. My dad runs a laptop repair business solely from Facebook. Every item he sells has the same format. Description/price/location and every day he gets comments saying stuff like "where is it m8, how much you want?"

I know this doesn't all really fit with your thread title, but any argument with any of the kind of people I've mentioned results in verbal abuse and just more idiotism.

I hate this planet.

Although America is in my opinion far from the worst off in terms of stupidity and ignorance, I think they are among the most disgraceful in that regard, being a first-world nation.

-We are overly protective of people for relatively benign issues (e.g. mandating calorie counts on restaurant menus) yet overly inviting/forgiving for more serious fuck-ups ("oh who cares if they were fucking without protection they're just kids!").
-We gradually revise history and facts to not hurt certain peoples' feelings (but to be fair we are far from the first or most serious example of this).
-Literacy really has taken a back seat in this nation; I keep being told that I just "read and write at a much higher level than most people", but I should not be considered "much more literate" in high school just because I can differentiate between they're/their/there and such, let alone in college, let alone in a class full of 30-50 year old students.
-Athletics have a far larger focus in high schools and colleges than they should (and don't give me any shit about "they help the schools", because not only are the academic standards for athletic scholarships far lesser than most purely academic scholarships, most revenue gained from school athletics go back into athletics instead of the academics, and even when they do go back into academics they don't fund anything practical. e.g. "Let's give our incoming freshmen iPads instead of helping to fund textbooks for returning students on scholarships!").
-The anti-vaccination movement. That is all.

Mostly I can just lead people around in logic circles. It's hard to explain It's just something I do.

Frued has some basis. The Common thread between my gay best friend, and a Transsexual cousin, are their hatred for their parents, especially their fathers. Plus even more interesting they CHOSE their lifestyles knowing it would piss their parents off. That's a whole different can of worms and talking about that is walking a very thin line. But There are Freudian concepts that might explain those choices. I don't think Freud was 100% wrong. I just think he was overthinking the link between our problems and our parents. Personally though the more I read from Carl Jung the more I like. His Red book is something I've been wanting to read since I found out it was published.

Absolutely underrated Mike Judge film. IMO the opening had a lot of truth to it. More intelligent people wait and figure out when is the best time for their child to be born. Social climate, economic stability, etc. Meanwhile those of lesser intelligence just have sex and procreate, filling up the planet with more of their kind. While the intelligent might not even end up having a child.

I've said too much about Religion already. I could go on a 5 page aplogetics rant. But I just don't feel like putting that effort in.

I'd rather talk Psychology.

 

^^^ This. Who wants to argure about religion? People disparage God as can't existing because they have no proof and insist that God can't exist for this reason. The view that makes the most sense is "I don't know." or "Not enough data."

One can argue does the world really exist? Are we seeing what we're really seeing? How do we know what's real is real we can see it and we can feel it but how do we know what we see and feel is what other people are seeing and feeling?
