Yes,a building needs a builder and a painting needs a painter, sounds like you get your info from silly man Ray Comfort. Thing is we have millions of examples of evidence of someone making a garden, your god(aka yahweh/jesus)has zero evidence which like I said is based on faith.
Everyone is only smart until they're stupid. If anything, idiots are what inspire smart people to improve the world! ...or conquer it, or hate everything and go totally anti-social/develop addictions to see it through warmer lenses You'd think that as a race, we'd be more thankful of the Earth by now considering that we're not getting wiped out by disease and plague before we turn 35... Instead, it has just given us more time to be stupid and make poor decisions. Everyone has to be a snowflake about being a snowflake.
The best worded view I've heard was from Tim Minchin: On a personal note, religion is both unneeded and overly complex, it doesn't pass the Occam razor's test at all. It's thus one of the least probable reasons that we exist. The only reasons why it's believed in today are cultural ones. About education and the disgust of it: I'm a grad student in Physics, and when people ask me "What are you?" and I answer "A physicist". Half of the time the people react as if they were disgusted. They often say "I don't know how you do", "Math sucks" or that it's "useless". Some people also suddenly change their attitude as if I was trying to outsmart them (trust me I'm not), as if they felt threatened. My point is: It's not (always) well seen to be educated (in science) nowadays. It's sad/ironic that people think you're wasting your time doing higher studies; all while complaining that their last year laptop isn't as fast as the latest new one.
*bangs gavel* Order order, the united "we dont like GoH" asshole league is in session, next on the agenda, how can we best discredit GoH? Truly scary that you have some kind of psychology qualification and could be or soon could be potentially in control of peoples lives.
Truly there's minimum standards in society. That's the complaint, people have crossed that line towards sentient plant.
http://youtu.be/3auzJpi9tvA?t=19m10s Please, GoH, take a gander at this. I recommend you watch the whole video and/or other videos from the Atheist Experience, as it is a great source of information, & gives you a glimpse into the beliefs of people and how easily convoluted/unfounded they can become (which you yourself should know first thing if you want to be a therapist...) It is already set up to address your question, easily. They have better arguments against the idea you have put forth (as many people have called in to state that same thing over & over), but I couldn't find them again. Watch any of those videos, as they crush all arguments for a god or supernatural nonsense easily. They don't state that no god('s) exist, just that the evidence for any of them fails to be sufficient. If you watch some of those videos & listen to what people around the world really think, it is pretty astounding & extremely sad, & makes me outspoken against poison. Not wanting to talk about it is closed minded. If you believe it is the truth, further investigation should shine even more light on the truth of it, not scare you away because it breaks down everything you believe for no good reason. The debate with Ray Comfort by them is also pretty damn funny. What an embarrassment of a person. I didn't want it to turn into a religious debate with my simple two sentence reply to this thread, as this is not the best place for it, but you made it one ;]
Ignorance annoys me more than stupidity, especially in regards to people with some level of authority. These every day kids on facebook and instagram I couldn't care less about, I can just ignore them and never have to deal with them, but as soon as I'm dealing with ignorance on a professional level in a situation where I need to make progress, that's what I can't stand. Sometimes it's like talking to a brick wall trying to reason with people, but their authority comes up trumps every time regardless of what's said or done, all I ever wonder is how they got in a position of authority in the first place.
^^ fair point. i could go on about the filth, but i'll can it this one time..:wink-new: ... as for the thought, here's one answer, it's 101% FACT and NOT for debate, BUT there's other means of rising through the ranks. ... 1, the 'ignorance' part in itself. if you're selfish enough, especially profiteering from human 'costs'. (part of the 'R' complex. 'upper brain: what are you thinking? lower brain: SURVIVAL!) 2, EVIL intentions. that's far too broad so i'll leave it there. 3, compliance/duplicity toward the power-brokers, follow the money, and if by surprise there is no $-trail (genuine dead-end) follow the corpses of those who spoke out/thought and acted for themselves..at the benefit of the 'uninformed/subjugated'. 4, PLANT. we live in a 'revolving door' world. the powers that be DON'T answer to us, they're unelected corporate officials put in power to serve the corporate structure, and when they've outlived usefulness, they'll be eliminated (take that how you like) only for somebody else to fill boots and adhere to hidden agenda/intensify efforts to that end. ... there's a lot more ways to excel at career/position, i just can't think of any way (in todays world) where being considerate counted a shit in progression of status, ALWAYS the opposite. ... the video i linked earlier sheds a little light on it, even a different perspective...(stupidity and ignorance do seem to go hand-in-hand. in the world we live in today, unless you have resources/KNACKERS the size of the sun AND sheer bravery/disregard to majority opinion, would you display 'intelligence' or offer 'pov' that differs the masses? i don't, can't grow appendages and heads back, i show them NOTHING, pure blank despondency..while mentally recording them and assessing threat levels posed to my person. eye-contact is a NO-NO, periphery takes up the slack) [edit] four answers. [edit again] if i'm one-on-one with a member of the public, pov's can be exchanged...assuming the person i'm addressing is reasonable enough to engage...
A couple of months ago, I was looking for a globe for some reason. It turned into an ordeal, and eventually a quest of sorts because I couldn't find one anywhere but I didn't want to give up because I had already wasted so much time. So I walked around for a few hours and went into about 12 stores. It was a learning experience. The best part of the trip was going into a Wal-Mart: I found many globes along the way: Some recognized the Ottoman Empire, some were the size of a refrigerator, one was even motorized/chrome-plated and stuffed with red LEDs that denote major cities. Since they were all madly expensive, I settled on a beach ball globe. The end.
Reminds me of someone who was trying to buy a globe "with all the cracks on it" & when he couldn't find one, he assumed it was a big conspiracy by scientists to hide the cracks as it was proof of a world wide flood & this is where the water went to, underground water tunnels. Little did he know, these "cracks" are the various faults in the earth's crust, & no conspiracy is around to hide these, just that he couldn't find a detailed enough one & instantly assumed it was a purposely hidden to counter his & other's beliefs. Insanity.
How ironic is it that those "cracks" are borders between tectonic plates that explain the drift on continents and so the shaping of earth? Something the people that believe hard in the great flood don't believe in at all and even fought against for decades? (You know because the shaping of earth was on the "3rd day" or something)
Honestly I feel a big part of problems in this world at least in developed countries like the US and others is morals and work ethics (at least those come to mind first). I just got my first labor intensive job and even though it has its up's and downs I take pride in being the best and most professional cashier/bagger I can. 98% of all days I work I do 110% I take pride in knowing the little money I make I earned it. Unfortunately roughly 70% of the staff that works there doesnt even want to work (mind you most are still in high school but still). They just do their job enough to not get yelled at. Constantly checking their phones and such. I find it discouraging. My attitude is if there is something that needs to be done I do it. Even if its not exactly my job but its close by and can be done by me quickly when it can be done. I dont understand why people don't feel this way. Someone is paying you to do a job and you would rather "be payed to do nothing than to do something" even knowing that if you were a manager you would be mad at your own behavior I asked once. One time all the power went out and after alot of the "kids" were told to sit out of the way. Cause they were just goofing off I went way out of my way to do what I could along with 3 others cause that's just my nature. The others asking hey why are you even doing that its not gonna get you a raise, they will just get mad at you. "I'm not looking for a raise I'm just trying to help". Good lord and morals in this country 80% of TV is trash now it promotes immoral laziness. Sure people fuck up and act like dumb asses every now and then and ofc its funny to laugh (reality tv *stares*) and such but why is it so heavily important now to promote every persons dumb decision. Its almost glorifying it if not already. Education system sucks balls and even though i am very witty i wish 100 times over i had Math and English ingrained in me. Education lottery my ass! I try my hardest everyday to learn something to sit back and examine the world around me and be productive. Its sad to see more and more youth not following this. Alot of undereducated citizens would rather tell the government to take care of their kids and problems rather than finding out how to fix it and promote that themselves and better yet actually take part in helping change things. Just because the government says they can help you with something doesn't mean its free it comes from somewhere and someones pocket. My 2cent ;P
Education? TV? In consumer society there's no need for too many people who can think - they won't buy a lot of useless trash like "New and improved Dumbphone! Now 0.00005mm thinner and got a blinking LED!" A lot of people spend thousands on F2P games with microtransactions, especially in Asian countries and funniest part - most of them aren't billionaires but sometimes have to choose between new premium sword in another MMORPG that will be closed a year later and food. Also politicians control people through FUD, false flag operations etc. Which will be hard if people will be well-educated and capable of analytical thinking.
Wow where the fuck you guys have been living for the past decade? this retard problem has been a part of our lives for quite a while. If I had to choose one point where this shitstorm started that was the 1980s, when the gipper came along and suddenly it was ok to be an ultra-conservative anti-science fundamentalist christian again. You had old conservatives like goldwater saying reagan was going too far, and warning that the marriage of the republican party with the evangelicals was going to destroy the party if not the entire nation. That old simpsons episode where homer goes to space got it dead-right: americans in general just hate it when someone else excels on what they do. They don't hate you if you make more money, on the contrary you'll become extremely popular even if you are a total piece of shit (in our defense this bit happens in most of the world as well). However to excel in academics or any area that you can't fleece your way to the top (like you can in business) is so frowned upon. You'll be called an elitist for saying aluminium instead of "aluminum". The sad part is most people don't know what elitism means, just that "it's bad mmkay?" However I don't think this is only an american right-wing issue, I seen the same retarded behavior in the left-wing and overseas. I seen leftards dissing the same science that keep them alive pass the age of 30, going against old religions while supporting the most asinine newage crap you have ever heard. If you think they are a minority then how do you explain steve jobs trying to cure his cancer with ayurveda crap? thats the mindhive stupidity that makes texans think they can solve the drought problem by praying. And don't get me started with europe where you can hear radicals recycling the crap communists used to say just 30 years ago as if it were a solution when they can literally drive to eastern europe to see how good communism is in action. Whatever, rant over.
Probably got stuck in one of his 'logic circles'...just going round and round and round. It's hard to explain. It's just something he does. (Apparently!) LOL
