So that's 20 cases (with about 10 different reviews pro averaged mark) = over 200 reviewers were wrong? Not that likely, now is it? Moreover.. Moaning about a single simple feature in a collection of nearly 50 games for less than $30..it's just -THE- perfect example of the attitude towards SEGA's games these days. Some people just don't WANT to be positive. Druid II, why are you always so negative towards anything? Lighten up man..
Um... Sega didn't make Mad World, Empire: Total War, House of the Dead Overkill, or even really Outrun Online Arcade. That'd be like giving Sega credit for making Gunstar Heroes and Guardian Heroes. And then the collection and Virtual On? Really? Those are ports of old games. As for Famitsu... come on, does anyone take that magazine seriously? Hasn't it been proven that scores from them are pretty much purchased? In so far as the Mega Drive Collection, its pretty lame that you can't use the lock-on feature. You want to know the REAL reason it isn't included? So poor schmucks will buy the XBLA releases of Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles since THOSE WILL have it. Sega is lame, and these days I wouldn't pick up a Sega game even if it DID get good reviews. The magic that made that company died with the Dreamcast.
http://blogs.sega.com/usa/2009/02/10/sonics-ultimate-genesis-collection-shipping-this-week/ Still lame, but that wasn't the reason.
Do we really need to address the issue w/ online publications scores? None of those games listed are near the calibur of the Sega we grew up with. Some aren't bad, but I wouldn't pull my pants down on account of them. (Except Valkyria maybe).
The problem is that I see one original SEGA game in your entire list (Valkyria). The only other SEGA game is a port (VOOT, because SEGA did the port). Even Virtua Tennis is now done by Sumo Digital. The Megadrive Emulation Collection was outsourced. SEGA is little more than a publishing house now and that is "the state of their games" - there aren't any. I'm not being negative - as a SEGA fanboy I wish this were not the case. Too bad those high scores don't translate into high sales, eh? The company is barely getting along. Even a top-selling SEGA game such as Yakuza 3's sales are paltry compared to other publishers' sales. And yet, since that's their lifeblood, what is Toshihiro Nagoshi working on yet again? Another Yakuza game but not Yakuza 4 (yet). I sure hope he loves making Yakuza games. Their top selling games sell moderately well and then 2-3 weeks later are not even on the charts any longer. All the more heartbreaking when they are indeed great games, as you've pointed out. That SEGA article is complete shit. I can't wait for part 2 next week when they reveal plans for a 2ND console based on the RingWide!!!!!!!!!! Yes, they state SEGA has 2 new consoles coming out. There's only one way this is possible: these "casual" consoles will be free prizes from UFO CATCHER machines. Just like the chinese MP3/MP4 player with a SEGA logo silkscreened on it that some people still think is a new SEGA handheld gaming system :-(
Thanks, Skaarg. Makes sense, now... just a mentally ill prankster. I'm still looking forward to part 2 next week! It's entertaining!
Part 2 canceled! What a load  ------------------------ PART 2 OF WORLD EXCLUSIVE REPORT CANCELLED - 05/15/09 This morning FGNOnline received a rather strongly worded letter from SEGA SAMMY's legal department about our inside report on the company's hardware future. FGNOnline was threatened to not upload Part 2 of our report or face legal consequences. We have been left with no other option but to comply. Mr Morris had personally invested many months of his life towards uncovering the details found in Part 2 and was currently in the midst of editing the report. We hope our audience would accept our sincerest apologies. - Brian Holzheuer (Associate of Mr Zachary Morris)
