So basically, everyone thinks the Al Jean years have been poor? ;-) I think it's true that the show isn't exactly what it once was. Having said that, I remember Weekend at Burnsie's coming out back in season 13 and that becoming one of my favourite episodes, so there were still some gems amongst the later episodes. The show should go out on a high, really - not with fans getting bored of the premise and it fizzling out. It seems the actors get an extortionate amount per episode, but what about the animators? Surely they work harder? However, I can see the actors' frustration that they can't get a cut of the royalties... maybe not for everything, but certainly anything featuring their voice - so DVD sales, syndication, video games, dolls etc. It seems Fox are a bunch of money-grabbing bastards who care more about squeezing every penny from their IP than quality control.
While the Simpsons is clearly not as good now as the earliest series, it still almost always has at least one joke in an episode that makes me laugh, and theres not much else out there that can manage that. I think they should continue, but just make half the number of episodes per series to bring up the quality. I would be sad if they stopped it completely, after all even a comparatively weak Simpsons episode is still much better than most of the crap thats aired on TV.
All of a sudden, in the 25th season, The Simpsons should start aging. The first episode will begin with Homer's dad passing away. And as the series progresses, we watch their entire lives unfold. And in the last episode, Homer needs to come to his end. Make it somewhat dark and dramatic. They kinda went their in The Simpsons movie. The final season needs to be like the more emotional parts of The Simpsons movie.
DEAD BART OT The simpsons later seasons havent been that bad, I blame bandwagon hopping, The Simpsons later seasons (13 to current most say) Havent been half as bad as Family Guy Post season 5. I applaud South Park for staying relevant and not using the same jokes over and over, mainly due to how its produced.
The cast will be overpaid even with 40% cuts to their salary, but I doubt they will be so grateful to accept their pittance of millions a year when many people are struggling to even get work. I can only echo other people's sentitments that the show has gone on long enough and has progressively got worse over time - particularly in the last decade but more so in the last 5 years. It is time to call it a day.
The thing is, the show's got crap but it's a huge franchise, known worldwide and I haven't see the ratings but probably still turning a massive profit.
This. Homer should develop a serious mutation due to his continued exposure to radioactive materials. Springfield will also be affected because the plant has been sending toxic waste their way for the past 25 years. Homer will then die, expelling green foam from his mouth while eating a donut in his deathbed. Meanwhile, Bart becomes a crackhead and gets into trouble with some drug dealers. He either OD's in crystal meth or he's killed horribly by the drug dealers who send Marge his body parts via UPS. Lisa enters college on a schollarship, but is so frustrated by her socially awkward relationships that she ends up taking her whole class hostage during an American Studies seminar. A SWAT team rescues the hostages and Lisa ends up in jail, being some old woman's bitch. Marge has to deal with the whole thing alone, and starts looking for a job because Homer's pension benefits were stolen by Mr Burnss (who after all is still alive and well). Baby Maggie grows up without a family and ends up being completely normal. THE END I should have been a writer
The voice actors agreed to the cuts so it aint happening http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/10/08/television-simpsons-idUSN1E79617M20111008 I actually think the show is doing fine, it lagged a little for a while there but it's picking itself up again. I've seen shows do a much more spectacular tailspin after just one season than The Simpsons has done in the 22 seasons so far. It's become pretty commonplace, especially among certain critics, to bash The Simpsons, but the fact is it's the longest running sitcom, scripted prime-time show and animated show in America. You don't reach that kind of achievement without doing a few things right.
That would be more of an achievement if Family Guy had ever been anything but shit... That Ke$ha Simpsons intro makes me want to vomit in my mouth a little, almost as much as that one episode with Kid Rock and his pet midget as a celebrity guest.
Even the show getting old and sucking a lot now I still think, when there's a complete DVD/Blu-ray edition I would buy it. Simpsons made my childhood and youth. It would be nice to have a complete Simpsons set.
The Final Episode should be a remake of the first episode alot of the people that have been with the show the entire run it's been have said they want the show to end with everything the way it was when it When Kesha (no $ it's stupid) was on the simpsons intro I said that moment right there that's it they jumped the shark. Then this week they had Teddy Roosevelt as their guest voice... They jumped over many sharks. Time to end it the Simpsons has nothing left to teach us.
I think you meant to say "a sad attempt to stay relevant"...almost as bad as the godawful WoW parody episode that proves the writers don't know how video games work or bother to do research (not to mention the shoehorned-in celebrity cameo or that it came out suspiciously soon after the South Park WoW episode). Previous music references, for the most part, on The Simpsons have at least been artists and bands who'd already been around for a while and popular, not some obnoxious shit song nobody's gonna remember in a year or two. This is the equivalent of them putting Coco Jamboo by Mr. President in the intro in 1995.
I remember they did a UFC parody last season and an MMA Parody was about 5-10 years too late. The Simpsons produce episodes at a much slower pace than South Park does South Park can do an episode in a week or less (sometimes over night) SO in that respect it's very hard for the Simpsons to stay current
Agreed, but like midway of Season 3 - 10. I guess I cant judge the last... uhhh... 7 seasons too badly because I only watched like 2 episodes out of them, but honestly you just knew it lost its charm, especially with how sucky it had gradually been unfolding to be. The movie was great though! So it showed that they still had some flare, but don't apply it all the time anymore. But I must be a person that doesn't like too much change. The art style and animation throughout season 5-10 was just perfect. Should never have gone all fancy. I feel the same way with Southpark too.:dammit:
