Most 1.4's are winbond TSOPs. But I also have seen the 1.4's with other brands. I also have seen 1.2/1.3's with the winbond also. 1.1's are the only versions to have the Sharp TSOP also and they require additional wiring to get them to flash.
I have a Phillips with the fatass "undercarriage", for whoever hasn't seen it. I could post a picture of it if anyone cares. The last owner cut and painted over the top of it so I am not sure how to ID the model # It leads me to wonder what's different between the two.
My Xbox 1.4 (which needs an homemade DIP32 chip w/ iND 5003) has a Philips drive, and my dead 1.0 has a Samsung and honestly I don't see any difference in using either of them. I admit that I was playing from HDD (a 10GB Seagate I swept in place of the 8GB WDC) but sometimes I used the DVD-ROM (mainly HeXEn and such). An small offtopic question : will iND-BIOS 5003 (not trying 5004 even if you pay me to do so lol) boot from the DIP32 chip? Or will I need to use EvoX M8?
I just got an original Xbox manufactured on 2005-07-31 and thought i'd add some more info to this thread. The Xbox was unopened, but I opened it to give it a clean and check the clock capacitor (It was fine). Looks to be a v1.6 with a Seagate hard drive and a Samsung DVD Drive. Here are some pics:- I also updated the Xbox DVD drive tray comparison picture to add the Hitachi-LG model:-
Thanks for updating the picture. For beginners it will be very useful. I was confused when I found that my Xbox had a Hitachi-LG, because I couldn't identify it without opening it.
