Ok, I have had another thread about the viking stuff, and that was about the horns. But now I think it is time, to have a real thread about vikings and stuff. Since Parris and I has made the introduction thread into talking about vikings and so forth, so anyway off topic seems to be fitting about a thread about real vikings, and the works. Parris: et ting = a "parliament" , en ting = a thing. So we do have the word ting as a thing, and the other. And you can see it, that the real difference is the singular form of it, aka. the indefinite singular form. Since we do also have a definite form of sigular noun (and so do we have that with the plural forms). But anyway this is about real vikings, and their real importance to the world we have today. Leif the Lucky (Eric the Reds son) was the man who is the person who is said to have found vinland. And evidence of vikings being in the northern America is in New Foundland. But anyway this is the thread .
I used to watch "Wickie und die starken Männer" (aka Vicky the Viking) when I was a kid. That was fun. And that's almost everything I can say about Vikings. Thanks for reading.
there was a point and click adventure game for the pc called vikings, 3 disc jobbie very similar in style to the myst games, i actually have a copy of it if your interested, was quite fun to play and reasonably accurate depiction of the norse history from what i recall im pretty sure theres quite a few point and click style games that are heavily influenced by norse mythology, ill see what else i can find if you want edit:: just found the vicky the viking pc game in my sons room! edit again :: most of the settlers pc strategy games also use vikings as one of the tribes
Thanks for that! I am just curious to see whether anything of real note was ever produced that delves into the mythology a bit more as frankly it's quite interesting (he says with his professors hat & cloak on). Anything other than point and click? <Just as a side note, I am sitting in college at the worlds oldest laptop (it has got to be as it's offered as part of the course and everyone else seems to have ended up with brand new Dells!) and it is churning out enough heat to make my wrists swell as I type. I think from now on I am bringing my own laptop to class. OH:>
If you're into comics I would recommend the valhalla comics, I remember reading all the comics as a kid http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valhalla_(comics) Hey, I didn't know the author was danish :O Heh, then I bet you know all about him WDK?
Haven´t you seen the old, and very beautifull cartoon, that is now on DVD ? That started the whole comic..
It is a wonderful animated movie( that I didn´t know, didn´t start the comic). But the music, and the animation is so fucking great, that I think Disney is put to shame. Thank goodnes for good craftmanship from all the people who was making the movie.
That comic looks really good. too bad its not in any languages i can read. well. gives me more of a reason to learn Faroese and/or Norse. If only i could find a place that teaches those languages. bah. why do the european languages i'm interested never have a place that teaches them near me?
A complete replica of an old vikingship started its voyage yesterday from Roskilde, and is heading for Ireland. The name of the vikingship is Havhingsten, and the translation of the name is The Sea Stallion.
