It looks awesome. Gonna have to watch it. At first I thought it was one of those lame OMG SOMETING HAPPENED AND WE FOUND THE LOST VIDYO! movies, and it turned out to be but with a kickass idea behind the lost video.

I haven't seen that in years, I think I'll go through my VHS collection and watch it too.

I got Serial Experiment Lain on DVD for 5 euros last weekend (pretty damn good since even Amazon doesn't have the DVDs for a sane price anymore)

I saw 'Hunger Games' last night. It was a pretty alright movie. If it had been R-rated and didn't hold back and was a little edgier, it would have been AWESOME.

I'm watching it tomorrow, hope it is alright. I'm reading the book right now in preparation, still need to finish the last third... the book's alright, but not a superb adventure novel I believe, it lacks some detail and it too aimed at a youth audience for that. Then again, Harry Potter was aimed at young readers and there was plenty of detail in there. Anyway, it's alright, but there's no way that it competes with any of the famous dystopian novels like Brave New World which, I hope, was also never intended.

What? Of course not, it's just a young adult adventure book. I'm reading The Hunger Games now because it's one of the assigned readings for a class on children's literature, but it's actually not bad and a pretty enjoyable read. Of course it's not a great book or anything: there's no real substance or originality (but what do you expect from a YA book?) and all the characters are bland and two-dimensional, making it hard to care about any of them. It's also written in a style that plays down the whole dystopian aspect so much, I'm sure a lot of teens are gonna read it and go "Man, being in the Hunger Games would be FUCKING AWESOME!" instead of the intended effect. Probably gonna go see the movie soon out of curiousity, especially since it's gotten good reviews.

The last South Park episode about Easter was reeeeeeally lame. Jjust boring and way too tame, the other episodes from the current season were fine so I wonder what made them do this? Had a really weird feeling to it. Also sometimes I feel like they just randomly decide to have another antisemitic theme on behalf of Cartman because it hasn't been happening for a while, although it's not funny at all (not to me at least). Maybe coming from Germany I've been raised by a society that's crazy sensitive when it comes to jokes about judaism. North America is way more liberal towards this stuff (can't say if this is good but I guess it is since it shows that everyone can be made fun of without exceptions) but I can't see the cultural reference in all this stuff Cartman did over the years? Is antisemitism a bigger deal in NA than in Europe? Maybe I'm missing something.

It's because South Park becomes less funny the further you get from age 15.

I bet you haven't seen too many episodes nor look into what they're saying. It is dick and fart jokes taken to an extreme but they (usually) make valid points that most people are too afraid to make that have the high level of visibility Comedy Central does.

And I love South Park and I'm 25. Hair, bird, invalid.

That's true, I do love South Park for the political taboos they break. In terms of satire, this show is much more important to have than Family Guy, American Dad, The Simpsons or any other cartoon comedy show. They peaked in season 5-11 if you ask me, but the current season is starting off really good except for the last episode.

Have to admit I haven't watched an entire new South Park episode in over 10 years (when I was 15, appropriately enough), after seeing the terrible episode with the talking towel I stopped watching.
The old episodes haven't aged gracefully though, every time I see them (or anything South Park related) I think "late 90s", which is something that never happens while watching old Simpsons episodes, even the "topical" ones.

Well, apparently you quit when it started to become good...

The Simpsons are not overly influenced by immediate events and news, South Park is very different. Sometimes they refer to something that didn't happen 10 days before the episode was aired - a great thing, but of course it also makes the references a bit perishable.

There's episodes of South Park I don't really understand or think are just ridiculous, Manbearpig is one of them. It's obviously parodying Al Gore as thats when he was pushing An Inconvenient Truth. But Global Warming isn't as ridiculous as Manbearpig and Gore didn't act like that at all.

Stone and Parker can create awesome episodes, but then produce some really daft ones.

And my favourite South Park episodes are at multiple ends of the spectrum, Merry Christmas Charlie Manson from Season 2, Make Love, Not Warcraft from Season 10, and The Coon Trilogy from Season 14. All excellent episodes.
