Today I bought my Japanese Wii but for some reason the blue glow around the CD slot only lights up when the machine is switched on, then goes off again. I was under the impression that this very cool glow should be on at all times when playing a game. Is there a setting I need to change or something to get it to glow?

Nope, doesnt glow. If you set up WiiConnect and you get a message while its off, it will glow. But other then that, nothing.

It doesn't glow all the time, although people have opened their up and figured out how to make it always on or hook up a switch to it I believe. I don't know why you'd want to though.

What a rip :( Looks cool with the blue light on. I wish it stayed on while playing games. By the way is a D-Sub input the same as the digital imput on a TFT monitor that PCs use? I was thinking of getting the D-sub cable for my Wii so that I could play it on the TFT rather than S-video on the TV.

D-sub is not the same as the digital connector on your TFT, most new screens use DVI, and the cable for the Wii is just the old fashioned d-sub 15 pins vga cable so unless your screen has connectors for both you won't be able to use it.

A Black wii + Red glowing LED = Any Star Wars geek would see Darth Vader written all over it xD

PS: D-terminal is essentially RGB component *sync on green* in a DB15, whereas VGA is RGBHV in a DB15.

Some computer monitors support Sync On Green (The list of working monitors for the PS2's Linux Kit should be a guide for you)

To make it lit all the time, just send an email to your Wii and ignore it, as long as you have 1 unread email, it will stay lit. Easy.

I think it's something like 50,000hrs life cycle on most LED's so I wouldn't worry about it.

your Wii's laser (L.A.S.E.R actually since it is an acronym) diode will die way before your LEDs.

Are you sure about that? I thought that D-terminal used the same signal as the component cables in the US: YPbPr.

we're saying the same thing. The D-terminal is exactly like component cables, but ending in a DB15 instead of RCA. Both component and D-terminal carry HV sync on Green, UNLIKE RGBHV , that in all variant (BNC, DB15, and RCA) connectors, carries HV sync seperately.

Weird, I think some dude at ninty said the light should be always on so people could put a disc without having to turn the lights one (ie, in a dark room)

So how you liking the Wii so far? Download any VC games?

Sadly I wish they offered Bomberman '94 to USA. Hopefuly the hacking crews out there find a way to let it reroute a usa wii to jpn VC Store and it actualy accept it (they can reroute atm, providing you did not install the latest patch, yet nobody has said they got a usa unit to dl jpn vc games).

Nintendo says alot of things that just dont happen (ie 480p cables being avalible in retail stores on day one).

hehe, just for the sake of being technical, they re not 480p cables. they're component cables. The reason for the distingshion is that they support 576p besides 480p (PAL and NTSC) from what I know.

Dont worry, the LED wont blow until you are old and grey. By which time, you'll have no interest in games anymore!

I call them that (atleast for the wii) is because I keep geting composite and component cables mixed up. Second the fact its called something differently in japan. :p

I've only got Zelda and Hajimete No Wii. Hajimete No Wii is a load of mini games. I really like the Pool one. It just goes to show that someone could make a fantastic pool game on this system were you actually have to take the shot using the controller.

I find the Wii remote a little sluggish as in you can't really do a load of rapid fire presses on the A button but apart from that it's fantastic. The Numchuck also has a sonsor in it which I never knew about.

    "componentu?"

Japan also offers the D-terminal variant, which is RGB with sync on green like component (component is either BNC or RCA)
