On my first it used to stutter and BSOD a buttload on FW 2.06 - 2.09 didn't help much and 2.11 helped a lot then it eventually flat out died completely, wouldn't even come back no matter what.

This replacement SSD BSOD's randomly, vanishes from BIOS on reboot and the oh fuck I'm I'm dead orange light comes on. If I power off the system (not reset), then power it back on it reappears in BIOS and I can set it as a boot device again.... that is until the next BSOD and vanish.

 

This is exactly what was happening to me on non-AHCI settings.

Look through your BIOS to see if you can set it (sometimes setting the drive to raid can enable AHCI also).

 

It has usually been in AHCI mode. The only time it wasn't was when I tried RAID for the smartboost caching thing which was crap. It is in AHCI mode now too. I probably just got another dud. A few RL m8s got duds (we all built almost identical PC's apart from case and live within 3 miles of each other)

 

Dammit.

Happily if a little unexpected, i got a new motherboard today from gigabyte but although things initially looked good with me only needing to re-install windows i am now having more problems trying to get my system running.

Booted up fine apart from the windows errors but upon trying to boot the windows 7 disc my system shut down and now i am getting a pink display from the onboard graphics and no display from my GTX460.

Hopefully i have my PC fixed by tomorrow when my new CPU arrives. Decided to go with a Athlon II X2 260 not that it was my preferred choice. Would have loved a Phenom II X4 or even a 1090t but a 1090t was just too expensive and even though a quad core Phenom II isn't that pricey i couldn't justify getting one at the moment.

Decided that the Athlon II will do for now till i fully upgrade to a Bulldozer setup providing future Bulldozer cpu's perform well or i go back over to intel.

 

Get Phenom or go with intel. Bulldozer is shit now and with how AMD are I don't see that improving any time soon.

 

Watched a Bulldozer review and basically it was not as good as hoped consider how longs it's been in getting released. I was really wanting to go AMD again with Bulldozer for my next upgrade but seems right now intel is the way to go with the 2500k and they have Ivy bridge coming though the Phenom's are still good for the price and if your on a budget.

Seriously did want to get another Phenom II preferably a decent upgrade over my faulty 3.0GHz x2 545 but just couldn't go spending much at the moment on any PC parts.

 

Bulldozer was a real opportunity for AMD to close the gap. They wasted it instead by adding MOAR CORES! In terms of benchmarking it doesn't stand up to the i5 2500k.

 

Quad cores are still much more than decent these days as the 2500k and even 2600k shows so at the moment don't see why we need mores cores at the moment especially 8.

More doesn't always = better although i got a decent performance increase when i unlocked my Phenom II x2 to an x4 and benchedmarked it.

I was hoping/wanting it to do really well against the 2500k either matching or beating it but it doesn't do that which is a real shame. They had the chance to really take it to intel and push them all the way.

I'm happy with what i got even if it's only a dual core athlon II, 780G motherboard, ddr2 ram and gtx460 1gb.

Almost considering giving up my Desktop PC for good.

Got my new CPU today but after installing it i am now getting power but no display and no POST beeps just like my original problem. I had a display the other day when i first got my replacement motherboard but was getting restarts but now even with either CPU i get nothing.

 

No display and no beeps? had this when my power supply was shot.

 

Thing is that i had that then rma'd my motherboard and the replacement seemed to display ok but i would get system restarts when trying to load the windows install disc as well as when i was in bios so i got a new CPU and now it gives me no display or beeps.

My PSU was only bought in april but it could be bad so might try a different one if i have a decent one spare or if can borrow one from a friend to test.

Tried about everything possible that i knew and that i was told to do in order determine the problem before so i could rma and or buy the right bits but unsure now.

 

- Just wrote two exams and a difficult assignment in the past two days and I think it went good
- after the 2nd exam yesterday night, I went out to a frat party, it got shut down at 10:30pm because people here are too stupid to organize parties
- talked to that girl
- she likes the weirdest stuff that I like too (like WW2 documentaries Lol)
- watching a movie
- got drunk together
- sleeping over (no naughty stuff)
- just went home at 8:30 like a bum with an empty whisky bottle in my hand
- found a $20 bill on the street (the first time in my life that this happened to me!!)
- no more exams
- gonna eat a bigass selfmade omelette at 1pm
- 1st arcade meet since I came to Canada is at 4:30pm
- meet her again tonight

After all the shit I've been through in the past couple of years, this is bliss.
