my desktop has gone belly up - in some mysterious way. I have to troubleshoot the whole setup by trial and error, one by one. Man I hate PCs, I m too old for this shit >< Can't someone just design a PC hardware tester/debugger?:p

    computer fixed.

In short, everytime that the PC wanted to switch from the basic graphics (generic) circuit to its driver-driven one it would hang, even with live linux distros.

I opened it up, gave it a good clean and got all the mud/dirt (it was no mere dust I tell you) off it. I suspect that all that debry inside it (and over the graphics card) made the switch over to true color/high res graphics cumbersome with regard to temperature build-up in the vicinity of the AGP card.

Thankfully everything's running fine now, although the PC does show its age and the case is half-fallen apart..no money to spare for new parts or a new PC however so it will have to do.

So do I. In fact a couple of months ago I downgraded from an ATi 9800 Pro to a GeforceFX 5200, just because the latter has passive cooling and kicks out massively less heat. I don't play any games on my PC that require anything faster (indy and retro games mainly) so it suits me fine. I don't have the time, money, or inclination to keep a gaming rig up to spec.

Having a sweet PC is nice but it's just not worth it for the taste I have in games. If your talking modern gaming 360 has it beat by miles. If you pull out the whole controller vs. mouse bullshit your just a bitcher. Unreal 3 is the only thing I have found controls worse on a controller.

Nah, K&M slaughter pad any day, it's just that first-person games are being designed to be loose enough to be controlled adequately by pad these days.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy enough playing on a pad if the game was designed for it, and (as above) I don't use my PC for any modern FPS games, but in terms of which control method is more accurate there's just no debate at all.

I can, the magic in that is by eating the salty popcorn while it's warm, whereas the sweet has to be cold.

So today me and my Mom were standing around at my sisters soccer practice and she asked one of the moms (sitting in a group of other moms) what there children were going to be for Halloween, to make conversation I guess, and all of them said WE DON'T CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN at the same time. lol.

I heard a similar story from a former Gamestop employee. Some lady and her like 3 kids or something wanted a Sci-Fi action game, and they were asking for suggestions, and he suggested some Star Wars game, and the mom said "WE DON'T DO STAR WARS WE'RE A CHRISTIAN FAMILY"

...I didn't even think Star Wars was Satanic. Unless they think the Force is the devil!
