So is it a lot more demanding on the single player side than on the multiplayer? Cause I have an I5 and gtx970 and could run the mp without problems. Not expecting to max out everything of course but wouldn't want to play with just wireframes either. Mine is currently on it's way to my local post office, should be here once I'm off of work. Going to be Doom all nite tonight!
Why do some of you care so much if others don't like it? Who cares what they think. Just enjoy it. Seems some of you are loving it.
Nobody was given review copies. Don't fear, though. The game is great. Very, very solid. Check out the Steam reviews and TotalBiscuit's coverage... If not them, take my word for it. 970s aren't having any issues. You should be able to put everything on Ultra and be fine. There's even a nightmare setting for shadows and another option I can't think of right now haha.
Mine is coming from Amazon... won't be here 'til Monday, which is odd to me considering that I have Amazon Prime. Edit: Actually, now it says it will be here tomorrow. Huzzah!
I played the closed beta and open beta for Doom^4 and I will say that looks are deceiving the multiplayer plays very well and it plays differently from most multiplayer shooters on the market at this time. I think Id/Bethesda played its cards right on this one as in somewhere a tad over the safe line just a tad. Some modern elements were added to keep and attract Halo and COD players that never played an Id multiplayer and also frantic enough to call back upon more hardcore arena shooters. This is coming from a person that plays ALOT of Quake. Think of it this way if you are put off by the more modern aesthetics, the game play could have been FAR worse and though I think there are some small minor gripes that need ironing out (in the betas) I was overall happy with the experience and cant wait to see how it plays out with maybe some updates or polishing (unless they already did that). I am actually downloading the game as we speak. Also for those that start comparing the game to arena shooters like Quake/Unreal (while there are some throw back elements to Quake3/Live), I tell people that this is a game for Doom players not Quake players. This game is also not the 90's Doom game, you cant make a direct comparison with these two but you can see similarities in elements like pacing. For me I instantly was relieved to find that the multiplayer map design and pacing was done in a way that pushes you to always be frantic and keeping an eye out and moving. That for me is a good sign because the pacing in Doom 3 was very slow and not at all like its first two games. Give this game an open minded chance. I was also skeptical at first glance when I played the multiplayer beta's but I was pretty pleasantly surprised. I hear single player is amazing and hardcore and I cant wait to see how fun it will be!
That's like what you said it's not like: Quake. And I agree mp doom3 was quite disappointing (as was sp). I'm not that hyped about this though. I've had my fun with "glory kills" in the original Brutal Doom (where bethesda prolly got it from) way before there even was a teaser for Doom 4. What would've really gotten me hyped about this is - John Carmack. And, unlike that Cynical Brit video that mbmm posted, I really enjoyed Rage. It's a solid game and way more fun than Doom 3 ever was.
To be quite frank, anybody who plays or watches gameplay of DOOM's SP campaign and says it looks/plays like Halo or CoD is absolutely full of crap. I can say that with full confidence. Different experience in every regard.
Just played the first chapter of the game in SP and it is absolutely amazing it surpassed my expectations completely.
Played a bit of the campaign yesterday as well and I have to say it fulfilled all of my expectations, and then some. The gameplay is so damn good, responsive controls and really smooth combat. If you've been on the fence with this one but still interested, I'd say give it a chance. Videos won't do justice to it, you got to get your hands on it.
I have a WQHD monitor so its a bit harder and my card only has 2GB. This is what I am using, get better framerate now. Launch settings: +set m_smooth 0 +com_skipIntroVideo 1 game settings: Boss health bar off, glory kill highlight off Video These are off: Anti-Aliasing, Motion Blur, Player Self Shadow, Reflection Quality. higher res and the jaggies arent as bad. Light and shadow quality medium Depth of field and depth of field AA on still enjoying it, reccomend it so far.
It's installed, But I'm stuck house sitting for a few hours, Might not get to it until later tonight or tomorrow morning.
