Seems like this thread was almost headed the same direction that my Fallout 4 thread headed... ...but where to begin? I will agree with a few points I've seen made elsewhere. Yes, it is a tad bit disappointing to see a 2 gun limit and not have guns strewn across the map. I understand why that is, though. It takes some chance/luck out of the game. One person could spawn right next to a way better weapon than somebody else. You're given the option of choosing load-outs in the beginning which can give it a more strategic feel. While I'm not saying it was the right decision or correct for DOOM, I can completely understand. Saying it looks like/borrows from Halo due to power armor is downright silly. As @Syclopse said, the original DOOM had players is different color power armor. So if we're going by that logic, Halo looked like/borrowed from DOOM and DOOM II. Nitpicking the announcer is also silly. Saying his voice is bad/annoying/uninspired is completely subjective and a rather insignificant critique. Remember, they do have a month to alter some things. This was just the beta. I'm also getting a bit tired of people comparing EVERY first person shooter to Call of Duty. We get it. CoD is overhyped, it's a copy/paste job every year, etc. To some extent, FPS games have evolved. We have perks now. I don't see a problem with them. The 2 weapon system came from Halo, and plenty of games other than DOOM have followed it since. Also DOOM SP has already been confirmed to have a weapon wheel. Also, as if I haven't expressed this enough, I absolutely love DOOM 3. One of my favorite games. I expected new DOOM to be a cross between the hellish, grim atmosphere of DOOM, the over-the-top action and set pieces of DOOM II, the intense difficulty of Final DOOM and the tense, claustrophobic darkness of DOOM 64 and DOOM 3. So far from what I've seen this has been the case and I'm incredibly excited to play the final game.
we should start up a classic doom server like odamex or zdaemon get everyone on for some classic fragging
You start, I'll play. I never was able to play real Deathmatch DOOM. I'm definitely up for it. I've been going through some WAD files recently and I've had a blast.
I'd be up for this as well. Well, whenever I get a chance to game these days. But about the new Doom game. For me it's more about the single player experience. I'm not that into multiplayer anyway, apart from couch playing. That being said, I will definitely try out the open MP beta this weekend.
Done, you should get a friend request from Ouja. Edit: If anyone else wants to add me on steam, be my guest!
I knew the MP would be a shitshow. They are trying too hard to follow market trends, focus group test bullshit. BUT, if the SP is even a little like DooM 3 and has the same atmosphere. It will be worth it alone for me. Publishers are too afraid to even attempt a true AAA DooM completely modeled after the original. Sure, OG DooM's game mechanics were painfully simple and even shallow. But i'm sure they could improve upon it and innovate with the game/level design. But the Publishers won't fund that. Why else is the FFVII remake not even a real remake. But a totally new game using FFVII's story and other inspired bits? They want that 10 million sales number. Same with why FFXV is pandering to the same kind of goals. Being a trend follower rather than not giving a fuck and setting their own as they used to. I'm more interested in DQ XI, ultra high end graphics and true to itself.
Doom 3 scared the shit out of me as a kid. Even the earliest parts were completely terrifying. I hope the SP mode brings me back to that realm of techno horror. -doulomb
Do it! Zandronum, Zdaemon or something. When Doom 3 was released i was a "kid" with a beard, but even original Doom can be scary as shit sometimes, especially some megawads i played. And PSX/N64 versions with that scary ambient soundtrack.
I absolutely LOVE this game, I was plaiying the Beta all weekend and funnily all my COD fan boy mates were getting smashed to pieces on it (which makes it even better lol) no stupid abilities, no unfair kill streak stuff - just fast paced shotgun battles. Pre ordered this morning and can't wait to get it!!
Same, it had such an unreal tournament vibe to it. Loved it, not enjoyed a multiplayer FPS as much as this since UT and Tribes 1
Glad to see more people enjoying the game. Unfortunately I was away from home this past entire weekend, so I didn't get a chance to pop on. Anything crazy different from the closed and open beta?
I'll have to join the choir here and say I enjoyed it as well. Didn't think I would but I did. Feels old school with modern twists. Yeah, so I'll probably have to preorder it too, I'd love to have the collector's edition but man is it expensive! I'll probably go for the day one edition with the cacodemon stress toy. I also recorded a looksie and thoughts/ramblings about the beta, that I haven't put up yet. I can throw a link in here if people are interested in seeing it and when I get it uploaded. Edit: So here's that link to the youtube video of me trying out the Doom mp beta: Pardon my rally English. I hope I'm not messing with any rules on advertising your channel or anything, but if that's the case, feel free to remove the link.
Nice to see others enjoying it too - I was worried it would be drowned out by the COD fans. It's odd because I never once got annoyed at this game no matter how many times I got killed, it just feels fair. (where as COD never does with killstreak stuff etc. It reminded me so much of when me and my mates first got our Dreamcasts and my mate got Quake 3 arena - we spent hours on that. Can't wait to get Doom
Bah, the flesh is weak. I just pre-ordered the Collector's Edition... Now I just hope it'll find it's way to me on release date.
