My NES console/games, genesis console/games Sega CD console/games. I come from days when buying a new nes game was 3 dollars at Funcoland. I'm not paying $20 for a nes game I kinda liked when I was a kid, so pretty much everything snes/genesis generation I don't collect anymore. N64 and PS1 games are still cheap.
Yea some games are expensive indeed, I was only a child when nes released so don't know how they were priced here but 3 bucks is really cheap. The best way to collect is the way i've seen a lot of people do is to grab games at car boot sales, garage sales, flea markets, thrift store and charity shops. Obviously its hit and miss but its the cheapest way. I grab what bargains I can and trade games I don't want or already own for ones I need.
There were games that were less than a dollar, and not only bad games, too. RPGs still held their value. You would still need to pay $25 for a used copy of Breath of Fire 2.
Perfect CIB Net Yaroze, Almost full set CIB PC-FX, all Playstation 1 & 2 dev related stuff. And many many more !!
I traded my entire SMS and Game Gear collection for a Jaguar when it was new and I was a teenager. I had US versions of Golden Axe Warrior and Ghouls 'n Ghosts! I promptly traded that for a bunch of Sega CD games I still have.
Not a huge regret, but I used to have a non-working (or maybe partially working?) Battletoads arcade PCB that I sold on Craigslist. I have a fully working boardset of the same game, but it might've been a good idea to have just held onto it for a spare.
Not so much sold but lost to the ether of house moving and uni, a mega drive model 1 with 32x and a Sinclair spectrum 128k I managed to get another 32x recently for a good price but spectrums are selling for £300-£400!
i dont have many to remember , but i remember several years ago , i wasnt collecting any retro stuffs, and i had mario party 1 since my childhood , and just because a friend wanted us to have spare money, he wanted me to sell my n64 games to.... a store.... which i did, and now knowing mario party is worth quite mooore , like maybe 50$ at least, and i had like 5 $ at the time maybe
A few years ago I have sold my Gameboy Advance SP AGS-101 that I bought from eBay for dirty cheap and brand new. I don't know why I sold it but I was regreting it later. Bought another one in nice condition but was not so cheap anymore.
Gameboy Micro Pokemon Centre limited edition I bought from the Pokemon Centre while I was in Japan. Still A$695 for a box set was too tempting last year.
For now there are only two consoles I resent trading or selling those two being: 1) Trading a modded original Xbox for a Xbox One which I sold because I only ever turned it on once. 2) Selling a re-balled CFW CECHA01 Playstation 3 that I played almost daily. I had so much fun playing PS1, PS2, PSP, & PS3 titles.
It's always a bit of a lottery to sell retro consoles. There is a high chance that you'll regret it sooner or later.
i havent sold a thing in my life but, ive surely regretted not buying things, had the oppitunity to buy a SEGA MEGAJET, it was only 30$ on yahoo auction, i said im not going to get it cus it will skyrocket overnight, woke up and it sold for only 33$.
Id say my PS3 collection. I dont know what I was thinking but I got so over it and the PS4 was around the corner so I couldnt care about my PS3 stuff. I dont regret selling it as much as I hate that all of them were once brand new games and I keep my games very mint. So here I am today trying to get random games for collection such as metal gear solid series, and Im afraid to pull the trigger on ebay because all of them have scuffs and scratches but what to do now
Not "sold", but even worse, I wish I could go back in time and tell myself to have kept all my console and game boxes which most people just threw out. In hindsight I can't believe that was standard practice lol.
