Uh, think you misread that, I wrote Blues Brothers, not Band of Brothers.

I actually have a Japanese DVD of Blues Brothers in a normal CD case. japanese DVDs were like that at the begining. The image quality on that was very good however I've never watched it on a HD screen so.....

I just bought me 2nd Japanese BluRay disc!!! Could this be a new trend of Japanese discs being cheaper than western ones? Nah, I doubt it. Just on offs. I got Batman! I've been after this for a while now but it's always been a little expensive on US Import and domestic Japanese release. Amazon were doing a Golden Week Special on it though for 1900 yen so I just had to pick it up.

I love the original Batman movie. I'm going to get a big bucket of caramel popcorn, chocolate and 1.5ltr of coke, make the room dark, crank up the surround system and have myself a cinema day at home. Oh yeah, this is going to good.

I love those type of cinema days. I do that with The Simpsons. Any time I sit down to watch a few dvds of classic Simpsons episodes, I make sure I order a pizza. I do weird things with older console games, too. Like sitting on the floor in front of the tv like i did as a kid instead of sitting in a chair. lol, i don't know why...

I always sit on the floor when playing games. Mostly because there's no sofa in my games room. Well, I more lounge on the floor against a Japanese floor seat than actually sit on the floor. It's actually very comfortable.

Original Batman movie? You mean the Tim Burton one? Because I'm pretty sure the 60s Batman movie is on Blu-Ray too :congratulatory:

    I'm curious about this statement.
I know Wikipedia cannot be 100% trusted, but they mention several resolutions for the common frame rates, and 420p is not one of them:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD-Video

I'm not saying wikipedia is right and you're wrong, I just never heard of 420p as a "standard" resolution.

The native resolution for DVDs is actually 480i.

Correct. (Most) DVDs are not progressive-scan, unfortunately.

Surely you don't sit on the floor to watch movies...

I always sat on the floor while playing games. It was the best solution for me because my monitor racks have always been quite low and I want to be close and in perfect angle to the game.
As a nice side effect, it feels like I'm getting closer to the experience of Japanese people playing the same games as me, hahah!

I have found a few that look pretty good through an upscaling player, mostly animated movies.

I decided to start switching my movies over to Blu-ray about a year ago and I must say that even though upscaling does an ok job nothing can really compare to the quality of Blu-ray, especially on TV's that are over 50". I also have to say that I notice the biggest difference when watching anime/cartoon shows the most. Blu-ray really picks out the little details and gives everything a real nice texture and the colours are way more vibrant.
