Thinking about trading in an Xbox

If you just want to play current games, either machine will be a good choice, it's just the few exclusive titles to each console that will help you decide which to go for.

If you want to play emulators and have a quality media centre, get that Xbox modded and stick a bigger HDD in there. As for soldering chips, it really is easy. You have to do something seriously wrong with a soldering iron to break an Xbox. But if you don't fancy it, the Xenium SP solderless adapter works with 99% of chips (Xenium Ice, SmartXX, X2,X3) and all Xbox versions 1.0 - 1.6. You literally pop it on the MoBo over the LPC points and it clicks into place, screw it down and all the LEDs light up to show it's in properly. Then slot on that chip and away you go.

I have 3 xboxs and one ps2 which never gets played. I wouldn't trade them unless i was to get another XBox maybe xbox 360 or ps3.

    Trade it.

I'd much rather have a PS2. I've got all three, but until recently (been messing with Phantom Crash), the Xbox had sat unused since the Halo 2 launch, while I still play PS2 constantly (primarily due to GT3/4, RPGs, etc...)

The Xbox RPG selection is pretty dismal, but then again some people don't care.

I'd nominate that for dumbest statement of the year, rather. OK, Xboxes clearly have a lower failure rate, but as far as games go, it's bollocks.

    1. A buttload of games appear on both platforms
    2. PS2 plainly has more games
    3. PS2 has more 3rd party support (especially in Japan)
    4. PS2 games come in about all genres and then some
    5. PS2 also plays the 4000 or something PSone games

So, that leaves you with what... halo and project gotham?

    1. there you are absolutly right
    2. but how many are crap of them ? each system has a lot of nice titles but i think the ps2 has also a lot of not so good games (so does the xbox)
    3. makes it difficult for most people out in the world to play/understand that japan titles
    4. hmm here i dont understand anything you say could you explain that a little further ?
    5. but how many of those would you touch anyways ?

not to break out a flame ware but xbox is a little more then halo and project gotham and so is ps2 you cant just minimize it to final fantasy and gran turismo

I'm not going to get involved in this, but all I have to say is

    PS2>Xbox in terms of games.

  11. Sort of, you have a Debug Kit that has a BFM Bios, which was installed via NN, this allows you to run retail signed games as well as the usual Debug games...

...If your asking about softmodding a retail Xbox the principal differs by the fact that you need an exploitable game and a hacked game save to install the softmod.

...The process is very easy, takes about 30 seconds to mod any Xbox from ver 1.0-1.6.

...Xbox-scene is your friend if you want to learn more, as this is going slightly OT :)

You have to do what you want. I know for me if I did not have a modded xbox I would mod it and install a larger HD. best thing about that is you can download the game you bought to the hard drive and play it. This saves your game disc from getting all scratched up.

No, the best thing you can do with that is rent games and put them on the HD :smt023

    Pirates Playground ;)

Arent we all old enough to stop being fan boys and admit that both consoles have great games, both have good and bad features but I`d rather be able to play a good selection of games across all consoles instead of bitching about consoles

My advice, hold onto the xbox.
Why? No reason really. I'm not a big fan of Sony's offerings and I haven't regretted purchasing my xbox way back when the thing originally launched here in the States.

If you do think along those lines, try not to post your thoughts in a forum in which several professional games developers are active.

Well, if you are a shmups fan, the only thing your Xbox is good for is Mame (I dont do emulation anyhow). Japanese games get localised, sometimes, but that wasnt my point really - in general, there are more companies developing for PS2.

Well, it's so utterly stupid to say that the PS2 has only "shit" games, because of every type of game (ie, genre) there are games on PS2 (and Xbox, generally, but not always).

I think I can name about 200, if you want. Or are you going to say that the PS1 had only "shit" games?

I disagree. I'm no particular fan of FF and I don't play GT, but that doesnt mean there isn't great offerings to be had on PS2 while there is on Xbox.

VGM, do you already have a PS2 as well and just want to buy a new slim one? You said "I'm not giving up MY xbox for another PS2" - I'm confused now. Anyway, the new PS2's are built like ass.

If you do want to get rid of one of your xboxes, just sell it yourself or something - the prices my local shops give for trade-ins make me want to cry - I dunno what yours are like. Anyway, sell it and get a Mega Drive ^_^
