Thanks for the explanation, Aeonic Butterfly. It really hurts to say it, but yes, no one can have the site. I tried to talk to Kevin (if that's their name) and it didn't work unfortunately. No matter how hard people try, it'll never work, sadly. I've been a dedicated member of this site since I found it in 2017 and it disappoints me it's all coming to an end. I've now seeked refuge at OG. It seems to be doing really well. I'd recommend going there, especially since most of us Assembler's are on there. The admins are creating a special badge for us in honour of this site called, 'Refugee'.

Seriously, this sucks, I have learnt a lot from here and it has valuable members. Let somebody take over site/forums and not let it die.

 

It does suck. A lot of people tried to get in touch with Kevin and it appears he's already abandoned it. It would be nice to get this site back to its glory days. Personally, we've got a few options, jump to another forum if this site dies (eg: OG, Dreamcast-Talk, et cetera), create a successor of AG or create a mirror for this site in its honour. Whilst it's already sad this site is dying, it'll probably be an even more depressing thing to see when we can't access it anymore.

Really sad to hear the news.
This is the site I visit the most, and has been for years.

I remember back in the days, when the site was down for weeks, and it came back with the new design.
I checked it daily back then, and donated a small amount I had gathered together.

I have learned so much in my time here, and gotten alot of great advice and respons on my projects.

Thank you to anyone connected to assemblergames.
It's been great.

I've always been here for the information, which is very valuable for people who have a lot to learn like me. Too bad it has to go down like this. Hoping OG will be able to attract the same kind of knowledgeable people. Thanks everyone.

 

People offering to cough up money, I urge you to reconsider your words and be very wary of donating money to Kevin.

Many here have had experience of his donation drives. There have been several in the past, yet nothing ever changed. He would regularly plead for donations to keep the site going, quoting way over the top costs for such a site.

If history is anything to go by, this could well be another attempt to extract money by holding the community to ransom. If he really is looking to wash his hands of the forum, then it's because the ploy no longer works, and he's taking it down as a final "fuck you all".

If neither were the case, he'd be happily handing over the keys right now.

Better to grab what you all can and head on over to OG.

 

Well, you aren't wrong there. I've already resorted to OG. It's a far better environment and experience. As I said previously, no matter how hard you try to talk to them, it will never work. Like you said, it's just one big middle finger to everyone and just throwing the keys down the drain. Anyway, I'll be on my way back to OG. Take care everyone.

It's sad to see AG go, this was one of my go to resources about retrogaming and prototypes on the internet. It was bound to happen after it went down for months, no explanations provided.

Kevin should really consider letting someone else host this, what stroke me during the last few months, was the lack of moderation enforcement and the fact that if something had happened to Kevin, there would have been no one with an AG backup to keep it up.

Otherwise I will head to greener pastures, OG seems like a decent alternative so far.

Sadly, it was a choice Kevin made by himself. Why he wouldn't throw the keys to someone else, is anyone's guess. Still sad to see that 23 years of operation is drawing to a close.

I had the same problem, I just messaged Demon in the discord and he approved my @live.com.au email.

You have to be kidding me. You are kidding... right? This whole post was just a joke? Kevin is the one currently driving the site into the ground and ruining his own reputation. For all of the reasons PixelButtz just stated, Kevin has been absolutely fucking this site into the ground for over 2 years. Most people are aware that he's scammed people in the past anyway, I don't know anybody who is an actual part (or ex-part) of this community that doesn't think he's an unreliable asshole. He doesn't have any professional or personal connections left in the community, so it's not like it would matter anyway if any of what you're saying were to come true.

Also, good luck backing up your PM's after he bans your account without notice, just because you had a girthy enough e-peen and digital nutsack to speak out against him and his abhorrent treatment of this forum and its people. Hell, I even tried to help, what a naive fool I was for thinking Kevin is anything but a giant baby.

OG had legal issues with Take 2, Rockstar, and EA - the site's closure was unavoidable. No pre-release content by any of those companies is allowed on the new site.

You are the most ridiculous, asinine, pointless sack of shit I have witnessed in this community bar none. Even jetmagnum doesn't hold a candle to you. Fuck off dicklips, we don't serve your kind at OG.

I would tell you to be careful not to choke to death on Kevin's ages 1 - 3 choking hazard tiny penis, but I wouldn't actually care anyway.

Believe it or not, this site existed for over a decade+ without downloads directly on it. It turns out that downloads don't really create a community. At least, not a sustainable, long term one. This site was at its best without them, and despite me fighting for them to be allowed, they simply aren't necessary.

 

I don't care about direct downloads either. This forum has an international community that is really second to none. So many homebrew devs and rare stuff that has popped up here over the last 5-6 years, like it used to on Digital Press 10 years ago. Absolutely insane to just shut it down.
