I was put off by the first episode, mostly because it seemed like it could have been prepared (rehearsed) a lot better beforehand - but it's definitely getting better and they seem to be more relaxed/comfortable in the latest episode.

imo the insanest one is Shou. rarest stuff good unknown things. but he lacks so much space for all he has !!
    ___
for the aussie Joel The Last gamer, first before measuring him and kindly criticizing him. i'm not the normal hobbyist i guess . i have around 40 various arcades, + ~20 japanese candycabs + the infamous pcb Ketsui stuff & cave memorabilia, 15 pinballs, more than 200 handheld games and the rarest one JI21 Lifeboat, hundreds of Nes/MD/Snes games with Little samson, Wild guns,...,, lots of retrocomputers & correct knowledge of tricking them, a vast games workshop vintage collection, more than 100 vintage 80's toys boxed, ~2500 rare movies & very scarce things (like 2-3 copies known in the world..), large bookshelf of oddities, well at least 5-7 TONS of gaming stuff .., and to prove everyone could do it with motivation, i did this without having 1% of his $$$ and nearly TEN years distant from my homeland ! (i can't even return home every day even now, only once a week is the best i can do). and guess what with these loads of these stuff, i'm struggling to find the good house with the good scale, now so i could set this !.. hard harder hardest !

    ___
this Joel, really i like insane people who see big picture in this hobby and some other related to nostalgia ! (because very good point : he collects in 80's toys, starwars, pinballs, movies, ...) and this is pretty rad & rare to see so people attempt this !!. (and it requires so much $$$ or tricks or past intuitions of this hobby would become) . ...so i followed his things from years back.. he could be the ONE we're looking at. could be.. because there are some points which sound wrong, so wrong.

    0. how can he sound so many times dumb and pretend having made his fortune himself .. in trading market? selling pinballs ? building hometheaters? excume my fair IQ or intuition.. but as many feel it too here, it sounds so false.

    1. his hometheater.. he said some stupid things as.. he lived from his talents in building homecinemas? well..ok.. but when i saw video of his private hometheater i knew instantly it was bullshit. Thx with a thin door ? the inflections behind ? etccc.

    2. his knowledge on japanese computer stuff. he has what people talk about nowadays normally.. but hey it's not like if he discovered this good stuff 10-15 years back !. so in this point he's just another wanabee follower.

    3. well.. when i read that he was found of "lukemorse1".. well.. .. the luke who only discovered Mikado arcade some months ago ??! and said he was living in japan for years.. something sound wrong on this too..

but at a certain level, a level i measure because i'm too in large scale (but not with $$$), i would have liked to talk to him.. i tried in facebook. but from the moment i said his hometheater needs arrangements to be "true", he kickbacked me directly and deleted my comments.. .

    4. when you're at a certain level, many other people are curious, hate you or hassle that you can't succeed..or want motivation. all the human i'm with this positive or negative in the madness of trusting what makes feel people something ; i try motivate people, intrigate them, rise them up, challenge the goals. but as him, who picks ideas but refuse to take consideration advices of other "insane" collectors, it just feels like another wrong person.

i guess if even "Dan Bilzerian" (he has (apparently) the private jet, the cars, the girls, was in videogames at big scale he wouldn't be true too or would be the ONE we wish to see..?!

a Buckaroo banzai of elite collectors & should be the answer ? or all that is just nuts & fun ? :) .. even here in France i figure some very large collectors in my area ! (2hrs drive max), but they all lack certain aspects of some collections, ..

-my comrade : just his starwars arcades/pinballs are second to the Rancho starwars collection and the rest is just respect (retrocomputers, pinballs, his skills in repair)
-JAM : imo the best in Europe in variety stuff (except toys/retrocomputers)
-Adol : you know the name..
-Brycecorp : for toys & figures too (but lack arcades/pinballs/retrocomputers)

so it's perhaps impossible to be the world record hobbyist & feel it.. only God is the ultimate player to figure it ?..

    the legend or schyzophrenia continues...?!

his latests comments on facebook are so well..you judge or not.. but imo, sounds so schyzo

according to older video he deleted.. he was proud of have tons of copies of C64 games & so on, and nearly got caught by police on Psx frauds sales.. he just stopped before, he said.. but now it's original only he claims from the old times even..

well..he says he's in the "arcade industry" since 1991. what that means ? did he bought cabinets at this time ? no. he was only some years ago searching some original cabs in aussie forums some can remember.. and because he's newbie to this in japanese things, he just discovered last year that a container of sold as-is blastcity can be a real trash junk of dead cabs...(if he had interest in arcades, he could have known/lived that from years already..).
(we are just 4-5 in france to have imported our own container of cabs for personal use and i was from the very early adopters of Egret II in europe too, .. so we could measure that and the problems ourselves too., but that makes nearly a decade since we did this, not in 2015....)

so apparently he says he bought original arcades games in 1991. yeah there are real players who did this, one game = one month salary.. i know some even in France, long time junkies. but be in arcade industry would mean much more, like having made a business of it, no ?

he says he wants all the original.. but.. why does he have only cheap copied boxes for his ..original CPS2 games ? no official boxes, no cash for it, or is it just hard even for him to get these nowadays ?

he says he fixes his arcade games..well just saw poor comments on bad solders a while ago.. remembering me.. that he had a hell of luck when its Afterburner deluxe got working suddenly by reseting, and was faulty just before (a classic error that is a kill for many of AB DLX owners, mine too..)

the best imo for this last facebook posts.. he says he knows Gunsmoke arcade to the last stage.. that is legend if really true.. i know & sure some of you know too some very good players who destroy & loop & loop again Makaimura & other good hard old games.. but personally (i can kill Commando or Operation wolf..) but even the pals i know, can't finish Gunsmoke..

having a co-pilot as a girl (and showing here in facebook front page) is just another excuse to establish himself.. World's biggest video game collector.; or worst perhaps..

let's see the world gamer show off something like Cave pcb & fullkits, he was certainly a first time gamer of these too ? ^^ .... hmm.. no, nobody can nowadays get so much straight or even buy them from another real collector, it's game over man there.

"This is my opinion and unless you are in my shoes it could be hard to understand" Freud would love this. (i'm not jealous i can measure his stuff as i said having too tons of it (without big incomes !!), . i'm just stunned at the shit from old days he talks (Storytelling !!) without proofs, and really personally like his shit brick houses..from outside :) ! but for the rest inside, there's much to improve imho..)

loads are dead links (shame on pictures sites not holding.. but i have all the harddrives & backups somewhere from 1997 !), but you can find still some ..stills.. from ages with my french nickname

you can google image with : fiend41 , fiend41 hangar, fiend41 arcade, fiend41 x68000, fiend41 collection (and for the point of fun & reality..about ~80% came from bargains or charity shops or trash)...

and.. another important matter.. i have covered in pics /videos circa 2002-2012, meeting & travelling in France many major points & earlier players of shmups, collectors, arcades, retrogaming, retrocomputers people & fellas, arcade cemeteries, openings, auctions, charity & bargains, around 30hours of DV / HI8 of footage.. somedays someone will do a documentary of this i guess

Interesting. Is the music in the intro from a game or soundtrack? Or was it created specifically for the show?

Does he speak and read Japanese, I don't see why else you would collect Japanese games over English/PAL. What's the point of playing in 60hz if you don't understand anything?

You do realize that is a very silly thing to say. 60hz is how the games should play. All you poor buggers playing in PAL formats before the days of the Dreamcast and PS2 were playing inferior versions that were slower and squashed. So actually, the more sensible thing to say is “Why would you want to play in 50hz?” Also, western box art back then kind of sucked big time, especially in the US.

Did you read what I said? I would take PAL English over any NTSC Japanese game as I don't understand the language.

Did you read what Yakumo said?

    • The games are as they were intended, not (as was sometimes, but not always the case) slower, with music in a wrong key and/or squashed images.
    • Many people like to collect Japanese stuff because the artwork is nicer.
That would take you on to:

    • COLLECTING games is not the same as PLAYING games. You don't HAVE to play the games in your collection - if he wants them to just sit there and look nice, that's up to him.
    • There are Japanese games that have little or no Japanese text, making them easy to play.
    • If you like the Japanese games for the beautiful artwork and the correct gaming experience, you may well be inclined to learn Japanese.
    • When a console has around 260 PAL games (with only 10 being PAL exclusive) and around 1,200 Japanese games, which library would you prefer?
Don't pretend that doesn't include you lol. You were in Liverpool then, surely? ;)

Sometimes. There were PAL optimized versions of NTSC games. Plus we had developers over here, who'd sometimes just write the games for the PAL system. In general, though, sure!

The guy is a gamer and plays his games. I am aware that there are Japanese games with little to no text, I wasn't talking about those, I wasn't talking about exclusives. I am saying I couldn't really enjoy playing an RPG on Snes for example and not knowing what the fuck is going on, if that means playing it in 50hz so be it, it's not that bad.

actually, I moved to Japan in 1998 but had always used Japanese NTSC consoles in RGB since 1988 with the introduction of my Mega Drive. I always hated the way PAL games looked even as a kid. :)

50hs vs 60hz is a weird thing here in France.. as we had the standard Tv of Pal or even SECAM (plot from 60's to defend our way of thinking they said us.. vs USA or USSR..), but later we had good luck with SCART !.. (but Scart in 50hz is just weird, graphics in RGB, but lacks oversized often and speed less -20%..)

50hz games are much sought after because of nostalgia here, prices can be insane, about ~250€ for a common good SNES game in box, while the NTSC-J would be at 30€.., .. but sure when it comes to gaming, 60hz would be the only way to go
    ____
mixed thoughts.. it's somewhat cool but often bad

bad.. his new hometheater room is a non-sense, much worse than the previous one. 2 glass windows ? and this atrocious corner ? every assumed hometheater fanatic or professionnal (he pretended to live of that !!), would say it's a shame in matter of sound surrounds & bass.

cool and so sick.. the global of gaming well ok i'm not impressed i said .. but i'm shocked (or envious?) of his pool size.. couldn't event dream of that in 2 centuries payload :/ (it would be a rape here in France in taxes even to have so much living space close to town & such a sized pool, could be possible living in wasteland areas but that cannot match with distance to job, and would be just attiring burglars while you work hard for this dream, our country becomes so shameful..)

when we read people about saying . he worked hard and got his money. his dumb speechs or attitude don't reflect that kind of IQ. so many people, millions and i'm one these dumb ones, struggle day to day in shit jobs and fight with sacrifices without $$$ success. he doesn't sound like a 1% genius...
