Same. I too am not over 30 (in fact, I'm barely over half of that) but I have been playing Sonic 1 for over 10 years and I still have trouble on that zone.

As a kid I always had trouble on that level. I was not allowed to play for more than 30-45 min each time, and after traversing through Green Hill, Marble and Spring Yard zones I usually lost a lot of lives in that damn underwater trap. Also, I've never been able to beat a single Contra game, nor Eternal Champions (I've never been a good 2D fighter player).

Yeah, I've been gaming for almost 18 years and I'm only 23 (they got me young).

Also I'm pretty sure you have to be some sort of savant to beat Contra, I have troubles getting through the first stage without the Code.

Get a with a turbo fire controller, pick up the the spread gun and sit back while you create your own bullet hell for the enemies. Play through the game a couple times and you will be able to clear it on your first life with a regular controller and no cheats.

Sega got you that young too huh?

I've been playing for around 18 years and I'm 23 as well. Go figure...

    there is an easy contra.

The first one. I can beat it without dying, and that's not with crazy amounts of practice or anything. Just enemy locations are pretty predictable.

It was all my friend's fault, he hooked me with Sonic 2 and NHL 95, and his dad convinced my dad with PGA Tour II.

The first contra is by no means easy. It's just your experience with the game over the years. That's how I am with Sonic 2 and Mega Man 3

I admit I never learned to properly play Mortal Kombat games, even though I love them.
MK I can complete it in its normal difficulty (never tried hard).
MK 2 onwards (up to Ultimate / Trilogy), I could never beat more than 2 consecutive characters. It's like the first character is easy to beat, then the second ones predicts all my moves and kills me in a couple of seconds...

I second this. Any difficulty on that game felt like ultra hard after 2 wins.

I can't beat the final boss of MK3 on default difficulty.

granted, as with most fighting games...playing computer characters is totally different from humans. Mind games and traps don't work.

Oddly enough I don't remember having much trouble with that barrel in Sonic 3 back then..

I still have zero idea what I'm doing in Impossible Mission for the C64 though. I know you're supposed to collect puzzle pieces or something but I'd just run around and have fun.

Hoping in as 38yrs old videogame enthusiast.

First of all, when getting old your reflexes goes awry.

and besides getting old, all this failing on older games has to do with the higher difficulty those games back then had.

I experience this often when playing some classics(oldies).
