Talking about soccer games in Brazil, I heard PES (and ISS on Super NES) was selling much better than FIFA there. Do you know if it's true ? Any reason about that ?

I've noticed that soon after FIFA launches here it's hard to find it in stores because it gets sold-out really fast. In the other hand, PES is easier to find and it is cheaper than FIFA. I think PES costs R$179 (US$77) and FIFA R$199 (US$86), with the actual exchange rate. I know that FIFA is dubbed in portuguese but I'm not sure if I can say the same about PES.

I found the sale figures for april:

    XBOX 360 1. Pro Evolution Soccer 2013
    2. FIFA 13
    3. Just Dance 4
    4. Kinect Sports: Ultimate Collection
    5. Gears of War: Judgment

    --> PLAYSTATION 3

    1. Pro Evolution Soccer 2013
    2. God of War: Ascension
    3. FIFA 13
    4. Injustice: Gods Among Us
    5. Assassin's Creed III

It was a surprise to me that PES sells better than FIFA here. Right now both games have the same price R$99 (US43).

I think maybe one of the reasons that PES sells better than FIFA here is that in the past, when the PS2 was the mais console in the country, Winning Eleven (PES) was better than FIFA and people kept buying PES year after year and they haven't stopped buying it now even though FIFA is better now.

Both companies (EA and Konami) make tournaments here and make strong marketing campaigns. Konami and EA even sells PES and FIFA for PC for R$29 (US$12). FIFA 13 for the PS2 costs R$59 (US$25) and PES 13 for the PS2 costs R$69 (US$30).

Thanks for the fast reply ! I suppose both series now have the rights of the real names of the soccer players. I was thinking about the fact PES is better than FIFA on PS2 too, but I was also wondering if it was some sort of tradition or not. Nowadays, FIFA sold much better than PES worldwide, but the ratio is not the same from one country to another. For example, PES has a larger fanbase in England than in Spain. So, maybe players choose PES instead of FIFA just because some of them were playing ISS on SNES years ago.

is there definitely no ntsc-us PS2 version of this? wonder what the number of units would be... would probably be really low, even for PAL now. might be worth something to someone eventually, like NTSC ISS games on the 64/SNES...

I think PES has the names of all the players, but not all the teams are licensed (for example Arsenal is "London North" or something like that). That's my gripe with PES, is that it has about half the leagues FIFA has.

PES 2013 sold much better number in Brazil because:

    - All clubs from the 2012 Brasileirão Série A
    - Copa Santander Libertadores
    - UEFA Champions league
    - Two brazilian stadiums: Morumbi (São Paulo) and Vila Belmiro (Santos)
    - Option File editing can fix all unlicensed leagues / clubs.

Fifa 13 didn't had all Série A clubs on release (Updated after release, by patches). Still, no brazilian stadiums or the Copa Santander Libertadores. Anyway, both games are fully localized to Brazilian portuguese, including match commentary.

Really isnt much information out there on an NTSC PS2 release of this, anyone have any region details on the PS2 release? Can only find some preorder options for the PAL version (UK). Would be nice to grab an NTSC copy of this...

I'm about 80% sure it's not coming stateside for the PS2. Neither Amazon nor Gamestop have it listed, and EA's site doesn't have a PS2 section whatsoever.

I'll email EA asking, but I'm pretty sure it's a no.

That's interesting. Mexican PS2 Fifa 13 does not have portugese. I don't know if Brazil got a different version.

This happens all of the time over generations of Android and IOS.

Only because they release hardware faster than Sony, Nintendo, or Microsoft. If the big 3 released new hardware more often, maybe not every year, but every 3 or so, iOS and Android would definitely count.

The difference here is that doing a PS2 version, a 360/PS3 version, and a One/PS4 version is that they all require more or less dedicated teams, not just per generation, but also per platform -- due to the significant/major hardware differences -- even with the fancy multiplatform tools and what not. (Heck, at the core, many of these types of games aren't technically even the same game on each platform. Some shared assets, maybe a shared base design doc, but at the core ... completely different approaches to "solving" the same problems.

Meanwhile on an Android and/or iOS platform, it's usually the same piece of code running on all generations and any differences between the builds on the different "generations" are borderline insignificant and often just boiled down to just licensing and the game just "performing better" in the same way Doom would run better on a 486 than a 386.

Android updates once or twice a year, saying something will release on multiple versions of Android is akin to saying it will work with pre and post NXE Xbox 360s.
