    Hia all :)

Today I bring you a little tutorial on how to have dual HDDS (Up to 2TB) on an Xbox 360 Slim 4GB (Stock NAND).

First off.... OPENING YOUR XBOX WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY, ALSO IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING YOU CAN DAMAGE YOURSELF OR EVEN WORSE THE XBOX.
I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOU MESS THIS UP..

Good with that over, lets get to it...

    F.A.Q:

Q: Will this work on a stock 250GB Slim?

    A:

    4GB TRINITY ONLY.
(The internal USB hub is disabled in the stock 250GB NAND, So it's RGH only)

Q: How hard is this to do?

    A: About 6~7 out of 10.

Q: What is the biggest HDD you can use?

    A: 2TB.

    Q: Can I use a 2.5" USB HDD?

A: Yes and No, I tried using mine on this and it did not spin up so I had to pull 5v from another USB port. I haven't tried a 2.5" SSD though.

Q: Why can't I just use the front/rear USB ports?

A: The Xbox will see them as removable storage, thus not allowing you to save certain content on it, also there is a size limit.

Step1: BACKUP your data, just pop it onto a spare USB or HDD (this will format it, also it will be a different format to what the internal USB uses).

    Step2:

First off you are going to need to strip down your console to the motherboard, If you don't know how to then maybe this is not for you but there is a first time for every modder so just do a quick google search.

This is the 4GB memory module, pretty ain't it :)
NOW RIP IT OUUUTTTT!! :p It's just held down with tape and a bit of retention.

    Step3:

Here is where the wires need to go..

    Step4:

    Solder them in..

    And the ground ..

    Step5:

Add a female USB port. I got mine from a old computer, I only needed the one port so I de-soldered it..

    Step6:

Rout the wires out of the console, I use a Wasabi 360 pro on mine so I already have a hole cut.

    Step7:

Before closing it up just give it a quick test with a spare USB (this will format it).

    :victorious:

    Step8:

Put it back together and mount the usb port.

This was the most difficult part.

Mount the port. You can mount it internally but I like the look of it here..

    Step9:

Now sit back and enjoy the gigabytes :D

    Enjoy...

Too bad I'm still using an original box until 2015 when I'll finally break down and get a 360. But THIS mod?

There are some challenges on the status of the internal MU... as far as I know ( I've done a few GB of packet captures) the console only reports if its active 1 or 0 (on/off) So in other words it should be safe.

maybe a switch could be implemented to switch between the default 4gb and the added usb drive.

may not be needed or help or be practical but could be handy if ms spits out a funky update

Yes this would be detectable, but its alike the hdd hack mod where it was easily detectable but they never took action upon it.

Also this little hack is AWESOME for demon/dual nand setups. This allows you to switch between an internal (clean) internal storage, and a larger USB hdd with all the hacked goodies.

Microsoft getting pissy over people using 3rd party storage on their consoles instead of their own brand would be like a high end car manufacturer (say Lexus) getting pissy because people get 3rd party GPS solutions instead of their own offerings. Can't blame a dude for wanting to save some $$$ after sinking a buttload into getting the console and needed support equipment already.

Its nothing like the HDD hack. You can buy a hacked hdd on ebay and have no idea its not legit. Banning people would ban innocents.

This mod, you need to open and modify your console. Pretty sure you need to know thats happening. They could ban with 100% accuracy and there would be no excuse as to why your console is like that.

True, I'm just saying they might not ban you for it since its a storage hack that doesn't enable piracy. Of course they have every right too since you violated the TOS.

I agree with you, its only storage etc. But if my fuzzy memory is working well - didnt they ban for people doing the 12v fan mod years ago?

But even ignoring that, you have pretty much 100% proof the console has been opened and modified. While a cool hack, I wouldnt call it anywhere near as live safe as the hacked "official" hdd method.

Just as an FYI, this ONLY works on the older Slim motherboards which have the USB header internally.

Newer Slims do not have this and the 4GB module is NOT removable.

Check your motherboard revision before getting excited. ;)

    Yes, it can be detected.

But, considering that people have been doing this for more than a year now (and tutorials have been all over the net) with -zero- bans, it's pretty safe to say that MS doesn't really care about it.

Personally, I wouldn't be worried about it, though your level of risk tolerance may be lower than mine.

I guess this is Microsoft's attempt to stop this hack? If so, LOL...

It's not so much an attempt to stop the "hack" (if you can even call if that) as it is to reduce costs. Anything removable costs more than something fixed.

Friend of mine got a new HDD off eBay and didn't know it was a hacked together model until I noticed that the warranty sticker wasn't legit. Had absolutely no idea. Of course he got banned anyway but that was because I flashed his DVD-ROM and instead of making his own, clean backups he'd download them from anywhere.

Any way to tell if the console has this removable 4GB module by looking at the box? (ie. maybe by mfgr date?)
I am considering getting one of these slim X360 (new, not used), and would love to perform this mod.

If you're buying it new, no love.

The Trinity boards had the removable module. The Corona boards do not.
