You think a $2500 sony tv would last more than a year, but no, after less than a few hundred hours of use it won't turn on. Best of all the warranty just expired. I should smack myself in the balls with a hammer for not buying samsung in the first place.
You should send it to SONY, even if they charge you for the reparair I don't think they will charge you $2500.
I still have my SONY TV from the Trinitron days, my dad bought it in 1998, it still works perfectly! It's a shame SONY no longer means quality.
I would have gone with a Sharp or Pioneer TV. Sony is so full of themselves that they think they can produce any kind of bullshit and people will just line up to blow them like they are doing us a favor. Beta, Mini Disc, UMD, Memory stick... All useless proprietary crap we never really needed. "Gee, iPhone has an app store where they make so much pure profit. Lets make PSPGo!. That way people can pay us for their games directly and thank us for the pleasure!"
The fucking power control ics. I have no ability to take apart such a big tv. I'm going to get a new one this week, they have a free take away with purchase. The 50 inch plasmas look good, and are half the cost. That's what I get for being an early adopter.
I have six Samsung LCD 26" TVs and two of them died in just over a year, one even caught fire.... That one Samsung did repair for free....
you have 1 year warrantry in USA? insane! here the LEAST is 2 years! In any case i can't agree concerning the quality of my sony equipment... maybe i've been lucky...
2 years warranty is set by law in EU countries, anything bought in any EU country will have 2 years and even after the 2 years it depends on the expected life cycle of a product so in some situations you will still get a free repair or replacement. Same here no problems with my Sony equipment, sounds like you are unlucky. it's just sad in my eyes that Sony doesn't want to touch it as my experiance is that most companies even after warranty have no problem replacing stuff for free here in the Netherlands.
Sony = quality to me. Never had a problem, cept with early PS2 lasers. Got two 15 year old Sony TVs still going strong and a 40" Bravia. That warranty policy is a bit shit though.
i have a samsung 26" lcd here that i've had over a year and no problems with it. I got it second hand as well.
My cat puked on the back of my old Triniton and ever since the color has refused to go low. Always so damn bright. Sony's fault.
Sony does have a little bit of the style over substance problem imo. Their stuff is always overpriced. Even the Trinitron's in the early 90's were expensive compared to other TV's, and often seemed a little feature-stripped. Throughout the eighties, they got their arses handed to them on a plate from the European TV manufacturers, which offered much more in the way of features (including RGB SCART and DIN sockets in the mid-eighties).
A few weeks back my Samsung 46" LCD TV packed in, a week later one of my 2 PC monitors packed in, and a week after that the other monitor packed in. I had a great 3 weeks and a fantastic repair bill at the end of it.
My PS3 is going strong, but I guess that doesn't say much. I do agree they seem to be lacking quality on a lot of products you'd expect to be excellent by stepping back quite a few years.
