I'm planning to get a '40 LCD and the best options are Sony or Samsung. Sharp only sells entry-level models, Panasonic is overpriced as well. My friends always complain about LG. Actually after what happened last night. i might have to get a NoBreak for it as well.
My Sony Bravia is still going strong, don't remember the exact number but it was named TV of the year in 2007 or something. But you should really try some negotiating, like someone mentioned before here in Europe you can usually make a deal of some kind if it's just over the warranty period for stuff as expensive as TV's.
Well not quite, here is the tricky part. In Germany (before the EU crap) we had a 1 year warrenty (=guaranty) Now, because of EU laws we have 2 years of warrenty (!= guaranty) To clarify: From those now 2 years, ONLY 6 months are guaranty, the rest (18 months) are only warenty guaranty means = The comany will usually replace your stuff, they have to prove that YOU broke it (i.e. they have to prove that the failure is not a technical problem) warrenty means = The comany does not have to replace your shit, YOU have to prove, that the damage results from a technical problem. So if they DO replace it, you are lucky. If not, try to find a expert (which costs $$$) and go to court. The result is: We (in Germany in particular) went from 1 year guaranty down to 6 months guaranty plus 18 months of warrenty --> The EU fucks us again! PS: I hope I could clear up the guaranty/warrenty problem, in German there a 2 different words for it, I do not know the corrent english terms (and google didn't help)
Panasonic may be overpriced where you live (but what isnt?), but honestly, here they are offering some of the most competitive prices for true quality sets.
I have a Sharp LCD in my room and 2 Samsung Monitors. My Sharp TV...it flickers. I'm not sure if I'm going to go with sharp again. love my 2 samsung monitors though
Assembler, I JUST bought a new TV, I ended up against the LCD/LED technology and went for a 54" panny plasma. It's great. Sorry to hear your sony died. I always had high respect for sony, but lately they have been disappointing. I'd check the plasma's tho. I'm sure you could still sell your tv online. Someone may know how to fix it and you might end up getting half your money back (probably a little less), but still something. J.
46 or 50 plasma for me. The lcd tvs still have crap contrast ratio, and still show fmv tearing. LCd and plasma last appx 10 years, and plasma lasts just as long now. I'd rather save 50% and keep the money in the bank vc a new led lcd. I get a new tv every 5 years anyways.
It's a shame they don't make CRTs any more. Mine is about 16 inches Deep and doesn't take up a whole lot of room.
In a few years FED Technology will crush everything, if they can make them last as long a CRT screen then they'll have a lot of buyers, including me.
I can't wait for the OLED TV's. They looked amazing on 2008's CeBIT and are not any thicker than 2 centimetres.
No way. LG are ok, but Vizio is awful. Toshiba has lost it too. The new Samsung OLED screens are killer, but they cost a bomb.
Well my ancient Polaroid LCD TV has been going great for years, and that was the cheapest model they had in the store. Just ordered a Samsung LE40B650 even though the old TV is perfectly fine, but we (I) wanted a bigger screen and 1080p.
Plasma I guess? my plasma is probably about the same weight.. totally not looking forward in moving soon as those damn plasmas have to be carried vertical and are all 50" glass and heavy... my new house is on the top floor of an appartment complex w/o an elevator! not sure how I am going to manage lol.
Actually Samsung, LG and some others have really competitive prices. I think that over 90% of the LCD TVs sold in the country are manufactured here, so the problem is not the taxes.
Well, 5:53 PM and my third Samsung DVD writer in 2 years is officially dead, which made me post here. I have a long story of failures with Samsung stuff (including a couple of audio players, an LCD monitor at work and a stupid amount of CD/DVD drives). I know Sony's quality is not like before anymore, but I still choose Sony (or any other brand) over Samsung. BTW, I know that keeping buying stuff you know it's going to fail after months of use is not something intelligent, so don't mention it. When I buy these drives is because I need them in that moment and I don't have time to go to different stores looking for other brands
