When I did a dry run last night the edge where the DVD drive is wouldn't come off.

I have a few Japanese Saves coexisting with an F Zero GX save on one memory card

UGH now it seems that case I ordered might not even work on my PS2.

BUT I figured out what I needed to do. I had to tape that Sensor shut after I finally got my PS2 open.

There sure is alot of metal under the hood.

I also removed the doors for the memory card slots they're such a pain to put in when they're there and it's dark.

Im poor and I dont have a GC yet but I have seen these mods on the net and I have wondered about the PAL GC

All the guides I have seen are for modding JPN/US GC, is the mod as simple for a PAL GC?

no. it's not. pal gc can use a modchip or freeloader. no region switch.

Unless SONY have added some kind of "if disk == certain type, deny access via linux" to their firmware, it should be possible to play any DVD from any region via PS3 linux and a suitable linux DVD player that uses libdvdcss to bypass the protection. Same may apply to using blu-ray disks and one of the various blu-ray cracks floating about. PS1 games would work if someone ported a PS1 emulator to PS3. But I dont know for sure how the PS3 optical drive works so I dont know if it will let you read DVDs, Blu-ray movies or PS1 disks from PS3 linux. If there was enough CPU horsepower, you could even emulate PS2 on PS3 (how much of PS2 Sony is emulating in the newer PS3 without hardware backwards compatibllity I dont know)

It's really not going to be possible to run a better PS2 emulator on the PS3 than the one Sony provide.

x_x I will have to import one eventually, being an european gamer still sucks

about the PS3 being region free, is that really true?
i mean... its a sony! :icon_bigg has anyone actually tried a random obscure hentai maid jpn game on a US/PAL system?

Everyone used to say the Xbox was region free, so I bought around 7 games while in Japan and when I came back not a single one worked, so im a bit skeptical

Weird. I have all my US and JAP saves on the same card and it works just peachy. Maybe because its a 3rd party memorycard? Anyway. 1st post. yay.

Welcome but lease try to keep to newer topics.

Anyways you probably where using freeloader which seems to bypass the issue. If you use a region switch mod, you can't keep saves on both cards as the HW will prompt you to format the card before saving.

Yes I was/am using a freeloader. I didn't even think of that factor. Thank you. :D

z z zombie thread! And yes, jpn gamecube needs a mem card to itself.

Also, freeloader won't fill in the missing kanji so it will show as garbage.

    Old thread is old.

Anyway, I was rentalizing a bunch of copies of Fallout New Vegas this evening (I work for a video store) and I noticed the PS3 ones had a globe logo and the number 1 on the spine. Region coding?

While Blueray films have region encoding. Ps3 games do not. Yet they still will list their region on the back/side of the box.

I have a few JPN PS3 games and they play fine on my USA PS3.

Although all PS3 games released to this date are region free, the technical possibility for Sony to release a region locked game on the PS3 is there.
