XNA was always a redheaded stepchild of sorts. Microsoft stopped supporting XNA for the Xbox 360 years ago when they decided to try and push all of the indie developers to the Windows Phone platform (which no one likes). Yes, you can still develop and release XBLIG's, but Microsoft simply has not provided any updates for far too long and has pretty much no presence in the development process anymore. Microsoft's current push is in the direction of Windows 8/Metro apps, which apparently they didn't bother incorporating any XNA support into it and have no plans to. Sony has their Mono-based SDK for indie developers, so I wouldn't expect anything more. Nintendo has always held a tighter than necessary leash on their SDK's, so while I'm sure some indies have them, not everyone will be able to get them.
Just finished from talking to someone from Unity. To build XBLA titles with Unity it cost way more than $10,000 to get a license from them. I won't say how much, but it's not even close to the amount you guys said not even half way!
Please don't guess if you don't know (and NO it's not 50K-75K). If you really wan't to know the price just call a unity xbox dev yourself like I did. I don't like talking about private info (Publicly).
I dont care that much, lol, I was just wondering. Probably $30k then. Its more then twice the 10k and less then 50k. It is also more reasonable. Anyways, good to know this before attempting to get it. Thanks for the info
I got the torque X Engine trials for XNA, the 2D & 3D versions but you'll need XNA Game Studio 3.0 & 3.1 along with Visual Studio C# Express 2008. The offline version of XNA Games Studio I uploaded from another user for Jtag's and XDK's doesn't work it just gives me a Crash Error on Visual Studio, but my school is going to renew my XBL Gold and XNA account for free (I have the keygen) but it's only good once for every 12months. I'll add them to the XDK Support Site for you guys. I'm working on getting the newer versions of torque X that work with XNA 4.0 refresh so you guys can use the offline version of XNA Games Studio.
If anyone has the Xbox 360 Unity Engine I'm still trying to get one. I don't mind which version it is, it doesn't even have to be a commercial licensed one it could be a trial version. I'm still trying do develop some homebrew/non-commercial games for the Xbox 360 but without an engine it's pretty tough. Keep in mind I do have a real complete dev kit setup, I'm not a kiddy modder using a Jtag or RGH.
The items you own does not change the content of your character, modded Xbox or devkit, it doesn't make who you are.
Unity is awesome, but I like other "engines" aswell, wonder is some others where "leaked" or are useable on the 360
I've been wondering the same thing! I get tired of using the PC ones, don't get me wrong I can use my Xbox 360 Controller on them but being able to use them on my Xbox would be so much better. I just got the latest copy of Unity today (Sadly it does not work for my dev).
Your absolutely right it doesn't, it's what I do and what I do is test and reverse engineer the games you play.
Im trying some SlimDX stuff atm at work, works like a charm. Basic meshes and textures, some light and camera work... STill have to port it to the 360 one day
Nice CodeAsm, I was up till 4AM working on some XNA Xbox 360 code. I even found a fully fledged 3D game I can re-build my way, I was working on collisions since that's what were working on for the PC, but I was tweaking it for the Xbox 360. One of my professors friends he worked with in the past owns a huge game studio I've meet him before, they make a lot of Wii/DS/3DS titles and have a couple of XBLA games out, and now they just launched a Wii U e-Shop title. I'm going to see if he can help get me an engine, if he can get me like the trial version of UDK or Unity I don't mind sharing it, but if it's a proprietary one they built and gave me, I'm afraid I can't. He's a really cool guy and wants to help us out with jobs in the game field so I'm pretty sure he can work something out with me.
I have friends at school doing Games and stuff, also for dutch companies. and one of the main problems they found where their programmings skills where not always at the right level. Creativity greatly depends on your skills and ability to create awesome things with the tools you already have. These things make me work on freeware first. or older versions, just to get an engine, object managment and a basic game going. Have fun and enjoy, and if posible , follow a studie devoted to gamedev or programming.
Funny you say that because that's what I'm studying! Right now I have about a year left to get my bachelor's in game development but I'm thinking of going to Digipen to get my MFA after. https://www.digipen.edu/academics/degree-programs/digital-arts/
You won't get a trial version of anything that runs on the Xbox (other than the student XNA framework) due to licensing issues. As far as your MFA, go get a "real" one. Game development degrees are looked down on as more vocational degrees. That is, they prepare you for entry-level work in game studios, but they give you no breadth and makes it difficult to find work outside of the game industry when you get burned out or laid off.
Then you don't need to assume that people with modded Xboxs are just kiddies. People could say the same thing about you uploading Xenon SDKs and Kernels for public distribution. It doesn't get you a good rep in whats left of the Xbox scene and it wont help if you are going into the gaming industry
Correction, it does not get you a good rep in the part of the xbox scene that only cares about themselves and no longer releases anything that they make or get. It will get you a good rep in the xbox scene that exists of people that does not have access to the resources that the few people and there little clique have. Its ridiculous how things went from share everything we have to further the good of the entire community to lets not share anything because no one else deserves to have these items, they will just abuse them. Just my 2cents on the situation.
