(Unreleased) Final Fantasy Gaiden (PSX)

    Im starting this thread to talk about an unreleased game i've just heard about 10 minutes ago. I searched on the web to get more info about it. No one seem to have talked about it on these forums before, and it doesnt seem to be common knowledge. Anyway, here's what i found so far. I hope you'll learn something, or add to more informations and\or rumors to the mix. This isnt a copy\paste job.

    Final Fantasy Gaiden was suposed to be the Sequel to Final Fantasy VIII, and at the same time, the first sequel to a final fantasy game ever. It was revealed to the world the 9th of febuary 99.

    The hero of the story wouldnt have been Squall or Riona, but Seifer, acompagniated by Fujin et Raijin.

    Square decided to make a sequel to FF8 because of the high sales it got in japan. It was suposed to fit on two discs, and sold at a low price (about the same price as a greatest hit at the time).

    Biggs and Wedge, the two famous soldiers of the Galbadia Empire were suposed to be part of the team too, and have a more central role than in ff8. Laguna, Kiros and Ward were suposed to get in the mixt too, as playable characters.

    The story of the game was a mystery. All that was revealed was that seifer wanted to be a better person, as showed in a cgi scene subtittle screenshot (wich i havent found yet, sadly)

    The game was develloped at the same time ff9 was. Some say square never talked about it again since, thus leaving it unofficially dead around the end of 99, but no real reason where given.

    Some informations may be more or less accurate, i hope to have more informations about that unreleased game.

    My favorite FF....X is the icky one, IMO. Did you play through 8? The begining was kind of wierd, as was the systems, but once you got ahold of it it was really cool. I think it was just too much of an oddball for a lot of people to like.

    I think the battle movie was done with a hack job PC version.

    FFX had the best story in my opinion, it even made me teary in some parts! (poor tidus :()

    Yeah, brilliant story...

    ;)

    I for one liked FFVII, FFVIII and FFIX... Agreed, each one of them had its flaws, but I enjoyed playing through them all.

    Final Fantasy 6 (3) brought a tear to my eye. Now a game that doesn't look shite hot that brings a tear to your eye must have a good story line that makes you feel for the characters. All this CG crap is what made FF loose what it had.

    1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10! I learned to count with Sesame Street!

    I hear 6 is the best, and will have to borrow the PS version from the GF sometime. I played through 7 not too long ago (it never worked on my Playstation back when it came out in 97, tried buying it 3 times) and it just didn't seem as good as it's hyped up to be, but a big thing could be that that was 2005, and it came out in 97. I'm sure a lot of the feeling is lost nowadays compared to when it was first out. I've played to the end of all the FF's since 7, but I've only beaten 7 and 8. I'm just not too big o FF although 8 is one of my favorite RPG's. I liked the storyline. I just think theres better RPG's than FF games.

    Play FF6 on SNES. No crappy CG movies to spoil a perfectly good 16 bit game.

    7 was good, not great, but good. One reason it will never be great is that it took nearly a decade to finally see the ending. :110:

    Also, I didn't like any of the FF7 characters; none of them clicked with me. FF6, by far, has the best characters.

    That would be FF3 right?

    I might have to go for the PS one, since I don't have the $ to buy the snes one. All my moneys going into a new comp...

    Is that the only difference, is it has the movies?

    ff6 is the japanese version of the game. So, when you buy anthology (ff5&6), you buy the japanese version that was translated in english. What's the difference? Well, ff6 is harder, you get more combats (to the point that sometimes it just annoys you) and there's other differences that i cant remember of right now.

    I say if you can find ff3 on original hardware and can afford it, go for it. Oh yeah, ff6 also have annoying loading time when you want to go to the menu, and crappy
    fmv scenes.

    Personally, i like the pure final fantasys better. 1,2,3,5,6 in no particular order. I liked 4, but it never really caught my attention either, cant tell you why.

    7 > Tactics > 6 > 8 > 4

    Seven is by far the best one, followed by Tactics, followed by 6 (called FF3 on the USA SNES) and then 4 (called FF2 on USA SNES).

    The rest I still bought and enjoyed but seven is a game that I can play again and again.

    What is it with FFX and it being "oh so great!". It was absoloute poo. The CGI was fantastic but the general graphics were lame. I say go back to the days of 2d or the PSX style of pre-rendered backgrounds (then the story HAD to be good).

    Don't even get me started on FFX-2, I can't believe I bought it.......
