Couldn't locate the IGN article. Could you post links to all the news site articles ? or at least some of them?
    I found 1 http://kotaku.com/cancelled-sonic-game-brought-back-to-life-after-18-year-1687793191
    And IGN here. http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/02/25/fans-revive-cancelled-sonic-game-after-18-years-2
What other sites are we looking for ?

Wow, so very impressive. I'm a little stunned right now. JollyRoger is a gentleman among paupers and fools...

The IGN & Kotaku is where I am guessing these freshly registered individuals are coming from.

I feel the IGN article got a LOT of things wrong and pitching this as a fan game makes it sound like a completely new project made with a new engine in an attempt to recreate Sonic Xtreme. The comments are filled with people who have this expectation and are complaining about the quality of the "fan project".

Here are two better ones from sonic fan sites:
    http://www.sonicstadium.org/2015/02/sonic-x-treme-is-finally-playable/

The image is squished to me (looks like the original Atari 2600 video format)...

Does anybody recall having this problem?

I do. A friend has the same problem too. Probably normal.

The engine is artificially limited to run between 25 and 30 FPS.

Tried to run it on my Intel 945GM and Win 7, with hilariously bad results. Couldn't make out a fig of anything, I'm guessing it's because my GFX card isn't supported very well. If I knew how to take a snapshot I'd post one.

The 945 is notoriously bad for OpenGL compatibility, in the future I **may** make a DirectX version, but probably not.
Keeping it on OpenGL makes it easier to port to Linux and OSX if we ever want to try...

Whoa whoa whoa, Can't I just use those dumped DEF files?
You know, to use them with this

If you read the thread, you'll see that it isn't that simple due to the fact that the engine is much older than the leaked DEF files. Thus you get glitches, like what is above.
