LOL video games journalism. They couldn't even bother to use their set of neurons to get to the easily reachable conclusion that the random forums member Assembler is... THE OWNER OF ASSEMBLERGAMES.COM SURPRISE! ! !

And because of that the comment section is filled with people thinking that Assembler is just your random internet liar, and not someone with a youtube channel and threads of very rare gaming related items over the years, dumps of terabytes of Acclaim backup tapes, etc. (of course the article readers couldn't be arsed to check the sources either lol)

Sadly I think the bulk of the internet is sort of crumbling into a short attention span theatre. Fact checking has taken a back seat, do whatever is easiest. All very shareable on Facebook.

Good video as always metal Jesus. Thanks for clearing up questions we had. You do know there are members on this forum who know how to dump developers disks?

Understood. It's hard having something rare like that sent in the mail.

Awesome video! Everything was spot on. I will actually be flying into Seattle at the end of the month. I have a 64 drive, too bad I don't have a dev DD. :p

At least that's enough to dump the US 64DD IPL ROM. :D

Hmm. He probably already has a flash cart. But, maybe he doesn't.

A funny thing about this whole event... I never intended to make a video about this until I knew the contents of the blue disk. This was the reason why I was so vague in the beginning... But then the ArsTechnica site picked it up, contacted me for comment... so I had to crank a video out quickly so rumors didn't spread. Thanks to everybody on this site who has helped me figure out what I have...

Also, I will be putting some time in this weekend and next week figuring out what is on the blue disk.

Between this video releasing and Ben Heck ripping apart the Nintendo PlayStation, this Friday has been excellent!

I made the long trip out to where the DD units I have are, none of them are like your unit.
I looked at the dev manual for the unit and didn't see that unit listed as a part or model.

When somebody with a 64drive gets near the thing can find out what kind of drive it is. Make sure your firmware is 2.03.

Stick USB in 64drive, stick in console on top of drive, turn on power.
Type this into the PC-side usb tool:
    Code:
    64drive_usb.exe -x -d asic.bin 1 0x5000000 0x600
That rips its entire initial state. We'll know if it's a retail or dev unit from that, as well as how to set up emulation.
Retail drives explicitly fill the C2 buffer (05000000), sector data (05000400), and microsequencer RAM (05000580) with 0xFF. Dev drives do not; these will not be the same values between boot.
Drive version is given at 0x540. Dev units will return 00040000, and retail ones will return either 00010000 or 00030000. My Japanese retail drive returns 00030000.

Can also rip the IPL with the usb tool using this command line:
    Code:
    64drive_usb.exe -x -d ipl_usa.n64 1 0x6000000 0x400000
Can also use LuigiBlood's IPL dumper from SD if you prefer.
