USB GDrom Thread

Well as a few may know I had a external 2.5" HDD by seagate that was hit or miss with booting & initialising, a few users had the same drive or the 1tb version & had no issues.

Well it seems it's the enclosure was the problem, I switched the enclosure to this one & it's instant boot every time.
(Same HDD & it's the classic enclosure)

I never used this enclosure as it had my SSD that I use with my Xbox One but I changed to a new one for that so gave this a go & glad I did.

Anyhow nothing new just thought I would share.

 

I'm here to Preorder the USB-GDROM Controller internal and I have now subscribed to this thread.

I will be monitoring this thread like a hawk now lol

 

I'd like to buy one too. Preferably for around what he had been selling them for.

I took delivery of one of the most recent batches of MNEMO's USB GDROM boards, it arrived on Thursday last week. I'm pleased to say after fitting it this weekend it is everything that was promised & an absolute doddle to install.

Unfortunately one of my three Dreamcasts (the one with the dodgy GDROM drive) seems to have stopped outputting video, although the logic is still working as it boots games. Damn. Ah well, I still have two working ones left now to look at modding the PSU to prevent any overheating!

( i dont have time atm to test it my self but feedback about D 2 disc swapping would be nice , i hope he fixed it )

 

I might be the guinea pig for this, this weekend. Hm, I wonder what is new about it

 

Updated firmware but is not showing the new date, apparently I am still on a August 2015 firmware.

Is this only for external USB or should it work on internal also?

 

That's what's changed in the beta firmware, I opened it with a hex editor, changes ar at the top of the file.

Feedback:

1. Disc swapping works for D2.
2. Other multi disc game don't work with disc swapping.
3. Swapping images is in reverse order now, so loading image 2, 3 & 4 now load as 4, 3 & 2 :/
4. GDI games aren't always loaded properly, you're taken to the DC bios screen.
   (Happens with swapping an image also)
5. Everything else seems to work the same.

Tested on my V1 UGC.

 

To your 4th point, does that mean that GDI loading is more stable on prior releases? Fixing D2 isn't enough of a reason to update the firmware if it breaks other features

 

Correct, I had no issues with GDI games loading, until I installed the beta firmware.

It doesn't happen all the time, but it's happened a few times when I was testing.
I made a video for mnemo & it happened when doing the video so hopefully when I send it to him he can fix the issue.

 

The beta update has also broken disc swapping for my unit, it doesn't detect that the lid has been opened.

Certain CDI's aren't booting either and just put me at the music player screen. Is there any way to downgrade?

Disk swapping does work but is kinda random as to whether it changes the disc or just "empties" the drive.

 

Someone got Ghost Blade to run on USB GDROM?

I don't have the original game and tried a downloaded version (CCD/IMG/SUB). Since USD GDrom didn't like ccd, I tried to convert it do cdi: first mount image in daemon tools and created a new image using discjuggler. But everytime the dreamcast go to cd player (track selection). I also found a cdi converted version for download but same results.

Some people from this thread said that after a firmware update GDEMU now is working. Do us with USB GDROM will also need an update? Any chance to Mnemo do it?

 

I got a new one today from mnemo, it's the full firmware this time 3mb.
(Cannot share & after the last beta I installed I don't want to, as I don't want features broken & me getting the blame)

What I can say is it seems GDI loading is back to normal & he's added a new txt string under Region Free: on "Select Image for swap - <x> button"

Codebreaker cheat discs doesn't boot now , game shark cheat disc still works.

Also the reverse order swap images are still there.

Update:
I fixed the above Codebreaker CDI not loading.
I had to extract the CDI & rebuild it with bootmake.

 

Thanks for posting this Rocky. Personally I don't see a reason to update mine so I'll skip this one. Would be great to have a nicer UI but the thing works.

 

Can someone test the swap order for GDI files please?

I'm sure if I selected images in a certain order they would be swapped in that order.

I cannot test myself as well I'm on the latest beta firmware.

Currently this is what happens & I'm sure this want the case but mnemo said he hasn't changed the swap image code.
