http://www.wired.com/gaming/virtualworlds/magazine/15-09/ff_halo?currentPage=1 Man, they are going all out trying to make sure Halo 3 is perfect. I can't wait.
just like anything in this world they want to make it quantifiable. well they should realize this: my mother playing and me playing is a totally different graph - I unlike my mother, will want to be challenged, beaten, and come back for more. Again, halo never appealed to me, and making a pseudo-science out of the average of this and that wont make a game good or enjoyable. it will make it average. why average? because they use the median price, ie the average value of this and that to assertain "what is fun?". This means that the game will be a bit of fun for everyone, without any peaks, hence an average game.
Microsoft claims that their exclusives and generally the games for their consoles aim for a more mature audience unlike Nintendo who targets the younger audience and girls. MY ASS. (__(__| If somebody was born before 1985 and could afford a gaming console in his childhood (and is not a soulless redneck), there is no freaking chance he would appreciate the generic themes and mediocre quality of that mass produced futuristic-war bullcrap. Just like Gears of War, the Halo series is a repetition of the lame G.I. Joe cartoon everybody watched in the 80s but checking it again now looks like a propaganda for Iraq. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying these games are propaganda for a future war, I just say that there is no way a gamer who started with an 8 or even a 16-bit system to find these titles appealing. Try it for yourselfs, just visit your local Wal-Mart and check the age groups at the demos.
i haven't played Gears of War, but i m definetely no fan of Halo. Indeed, I do find the costumes and themes found in Halo kind of generic/matcho, but I guess that's the equivelant of Contra back in the day (everyone looking like Rambo etc) - that said, Contra is a classic game , something that Halo is not in my book.
Well the old war themed games are now cult classics, in addition of being pure gameplay rather than having a badass serious scenario. And basically I'm not against the contemporary games, it's a natural evolution (gone bad in MS's case). Because there are indeed some serious followers to the classic, take the Metal Gear Solid series for example. You can feel the quality everytime you play, Konami took care about everything. And don't let me start about the Metroid series... But Microsoft makes games look like Chinese b-line graphic card covers and thinks that will sell to a serious mature gamer! Would you play something like this? I proudly present the next buttkicker from Microsoft: It's Leonidas! Oh, no! It's a gaygod from Saint Seiya! No it's General McFart from Team America after a visit to Greece where Hercules gave him this armour of cock! Now he must stop the alien titty terrorists from Venus in the year 6969.
I usually don't try to speak my opinion much, since, well, it's the internet, but I gotta say, it looks like Halo has become the new Final Fantasy in terms of people trashing it. I have a pretty good grasp on the stupidness of most Xbox and Halo fans. So yes, I do know that 70% of fans of Gears, Halo, etc. are jackass 15 year olds who make the net play so unpleasent, but that is pretty much true of most game players now. These people don't matter much anyhow, seeing as they'll buy the game only to play multiplayer. I am a person who started with a Nes, a Genesis, a PS1, a Dreamcast, etc. Like most people here, I mostly play older games. I haven't even cared about modern games until I got a 360, seeing as the games are fun, even after two system deaths. I'm definitly not a fan of generic stuff, and I don't play Tom Clancy games or anything like that, blah blah blah. The most army-ish thing I play is MGS, Halo, and Gears. I think Gears has its own look, its own art style, just like something like Final Fantasy would. The way Gears looks and plays was definitly not like everything out there. It might be a shooter, but generic it's not. Now, Halo... I can see why people seem to think Halo is so generic, since most of the Xbox launch games had the same look. But upon actually PLAYING Halo, you can tell Halo has it's own universe, story, characters, music, and game play, just as something like Star Wars would. I'm sorry, and maybe I read yours and others posts wrong, but I get the feeling all these "opinions" of Halo come from people who just haven't played these games, much less finish them. I am a person who doesn't like sci-fi stuff, nor online play, and here I am, having finished Gears and am eagerly anticipating Halo 3, first game I've been excited for in years. So, I don't know. I just get a feeling a large amount of the hate Halo is getting is the same as all the people saying something like Final Fantasy 7 sucks. Anyone can quote me and try to make me look stupid, but seriously, ever try talking about Halo on the net? You fucking can't. You'll get a thousand posts of "Halo sucks". It's almost like a new trend. In my personal expieriences, all the people I actually know who tell me Halo sucks all the time are people who only play PC, never had an Xbox, or never played beyond multiplayer. For the people who say something like Half-Life is years beyond Halo, I have to say, how the hell are the two even the comparable? Another point is that I'm pretty sure Halo is the game that invented the grenade and melee button that 90% of FPS have now. I'd say Halo was a classic. I think a lot of people who got Xbox would agree, and think of fun times at LAN's, with co-op, or just beating the game. Halo got me to buy an Xbox after playing The Silent Cartographer at a friends house, and this was after clinging to Dreamcast for years. So, whatever. That's what I have to say about the matter. Now people can quote me and call me stupid I guess.
It may well be, but that doesn't change the fact that I have never really enjoyed any of the Halo games. I am actually looking forward to Halo and Conquer... sorry "Halo Wars" though so that shoots your comment right down. It's just a very generic shooter, and you are right it is a very "American" game but that isn't the reason I don't like it. It's cool to make everything into an "You's an American h8'or!!!!!!!!111one" argument isn't it Casual?
I really prefer realism in FPS`s, maybe Halo 3 will deliver something other two could not. I want to shoot people not aliens, especially not tiny dinosaur aliens. The use of vehicles was very well implemented and a lot of fun in multiplayer. It`s funny I don`t want to fight little aliens in Halo but i`ll happily shoot kettles in Point Blank :icon_bigg sorry it`s pretty much off topic.
Well, it was either that, or you are an intolerable PC elitist who probably still plays Quake 3 and thinks the mouse and keyboard combo is the best control scheme for any game ever. Why do you say you want Halo Wars when you think Halo is a generic shooter? Its going to be a generic RTS. RTS and FPS are so generic now, its not even funny. Especially PC RTS's and FPSs. Halo may be generic, but it can still be fun. I don't hail it as the greatest FPS ever made, but I have fun with it, and its fun in LAN parties. Especially with people you know. In my humble opinion, if you don't like Halo, you don't like the FPS genre. What, exactly, makes Halo so "American" anyway, other than being from America? If Warhammer 40,000 originated in America, would you say it was typical American bullshit because it was extreme and focused on war? I have a pretty open mind. I can play Halo one day, and play Kingdom Hearts the next. I don't really like sports or racing titles, so if I played one I'd think it sucks. If by some chance you just plain don't like FPS's because you think they're generic, wouldn't that be a TAD biased anyway? That'd be comparable to me playing 5 minutes of the latest Madden or whatever Popular racing game out there, and say its crap because I didn't like the genre. Anyhoo, I'm starting to get the impression that some of our European members (and some not's) think their opinions are fact and American gamers have shit tastes ad bad games, even if they didn't play the games in question. Shitty excuses such as "Oh my god, this game is so "In your face!" and not even bothering to explain what that phrase even means or give good examples. You could say that Warhammer 40,000 is "In your face" because its so extreme. Sounds like some people like to bitch just for the sake of bitching, just like my grandma.
You really do have the "victimised American" thing down to a tee don't you, if you really want to make everything into an anti-American argument, then this is probably the last place you want to take it. I can't even be arsed to argue your points out with you because you clearly just want a fight.
That, or I said some things you can't argue with easily? Just tell me this: What does "In your face" mean, and give a good example. Keep in mind, however, that its a pretty common phrase, and could have about sixty million other uses.
Seeing as I have not used that phrase, I would question as to why you want me to give you a breakdown of it. I am refusing to argue your points because they are quite frankly, remedial. Picking a fight with me isn't a clever idea, and in case you had any notions otherwise, post count does not give any extra weight if this becomes an "official matter.
And you think you can say whatever you want because you are a moderator? I do not care about post count to be honest. But rather than drag on this argument I can safely say the only people who hate Halo are people who either 1. Hate it for being on a console and leading to PC gamers eventually getting the shaft, not to mention the whole controller vs. Mouse and Keyboard debate 2. People who tear into it for being a popular generic War related FPS 3. Being American - Not trying to start another shitstorm here, but I've heards lots of people say it here. I guess its comparable to American gamers not liking some JRPG for being "Too Japanese". I don't know many who think the latter though. (EDIT: Well, outside of Troll communities) 4. And of course, the retarded fanbase that hails it as the FPS to end all FPSs. I think its a pretty fun game overall, but I don't get crazy about it. I also think its difficult for an FPS not to be generic, too. But seriously, what do you not like about it? The pacing? The community? I'm interested to know. I can't stand UT because the pacing is ridiculously fast, but to each his own.
If I was going to abuse my power of being a mod, I wouldn't threaten, I would just do it. But I don't as it's a position of trust. That however doesn't mean I am not entitled to argue my point, what I mean is you are just trolling for the sake of getting a "you hates America" argument, and trolling generally isn't accepted from anyone.
