I bet 100% it will be a port of the PC version just like that found on Sonic Gems :crying: The Mega CD version is way better in may respects but I guess porting that is also way more work

Who'd actually want to run a PS2 emulator to play Gems Collection, though?

I'm not so sure. I'm fairly certain all the other Sonic games on XBLA use a Mega Drive/Genesis emulator. Seems like it would be fairly easy (for Sega) to slightly modify that emulator to run a Mega CD game.

Yeah, because that's gonna look so great when applied to a 16-bit game.

Pray you have someone close to you to play. Network lag will kill this game.

Yeah, but... why not just use a Genesis emulator? The Genesis Collection uses an emulator, so you're emulating an emulator.

Exactly, and why not just use the same emulator to emulate Sonic CD instead of using a PS2 emulator with much higher system requirements?
Besides, filters on old games are an abomination. I bought Fate of Atlantis on Steam the other day and it had some terrible smoothing filter on by default, but thankfully it could be turned off.

I've started adding scanlines to all my emulated games I have no idea what they really do. I've played on CRTs my whole life I never notice them nor do I understand the point of them in emulators but they are a cool effect sometimes

Lets wait before we assume they could have a really good Netcode

Barebones VF5FS was completed awhile ago for XBLA/PSN. The reason why it's taking so long is that now they're going to code the hooks and create all of this future DLC they are going to rip consumers off on (see Namco).

Sega is very very far behind when it comes to modern tech expertise and market awareness so we'll just have to laugh at them again when this comes out too late in a sea of brand new competitors (Tekken Tag 2, upgraded version of SF x Tekken, Soul Calibur V, Marvel vs DC hype) when this game is essentially 5 years old. (Yes, I realize FS came out in 2010 but it looks so dated and the gameplay is not to VF series standard.)

Why is that shame? The Japanese soundtrack in better IMO and far more popular. It's only natural that they went for it.

That link also says it's "remastered," and that it will have "widescreen graphics." I hope that doesn't mean they've applied some crappy filter to it.

Agreed. Japanese is better. If I was to choose only one, it would be the japanese soundtrack.
But a lot of people (including me) grew up with the american version, and we will miss it.
Also, I do prefer the american opening music (sonic boom).

Not including both versions is the same as selling Crazy Taxy without the original soundtrack.

I hope they don't call this as "widescreen graphics"

They ALWAYS call stuff like that "widescreen" or "HD". They did the exact same thing with every MD game that was on XBLA. And that filter is going to make me barf.

I'm thinking I might get the Mega CD version, actually. It's always best to play on the original hardware, although that isn't an option for everyone.

Regarding the crappy filter, they'll probably have an option to turn it off.

No, let's use mathematics to figure out that no internet connection exists [to the home... most homes, anyway] that will send data round-trip fast enough. Some moves in VF have a characteristic of a whopping 8-frames. The packet still has to be processed as well.
