Just to clarify, Sonic CD on XBLA is not using an emulator. A guy from the Sonic Community called Saxman has created his own engine, which is very very close to the original games's engine, the Retro Engine. The game will be ported using that engine.
He had a video on youtube showing off his engine running Sonic CD on the Iphone, I guess SEGA noticed and contracted him. It will support true Widescreen and also include the Japanese Soundtrack (not sure about the American one).

How does "true widescreen" work on a 16:9 game?

Maybe you can see more in to the distance than you can in the standard game? I can see it as having the 4.3 image with a little more behind and infront of you. Or at least that's how I hope it will be. I'm not too sure about the game being a port. I'd rather have emulation that was good than a port. Still, if it's better than the PC port I'll be very happy.

That doesn't look like "true widescreen" to me. More like a 4:3 image with some bars on the side.

I don't know if that's an actual image from the game, though.

EDIT: I found this trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjF6kq4MFlo I guess it is true widescreen.

High level emulation is arguably better than most ports... emulation is often used in ports... and we're not even talking about the shit resolution issues.

I actually played it while it was on loke test. The physics are a bit closer to 4... I just decided I don't have spare 100 yen coins for the fist fuck this series has turned in to.

Also stupid that this game is basically finished in the arcades. It will be unheard of by next summer. Stupid time for release.

I've never been able to get into VF (but it's also worth noting that I also haven't tried that hard).

    Am I doing it wrong?

I think it's sad that a game like Virtua Fighter is going to be available only in digital distribution.

hmmm sounds like a straight pc port. I hope they keep the japanese music as a lot of the american music pales in comparison. As for why they ported the pc version, it's just much easier to do. Sonic team I believe tried to use a sega cd emu for it on the sonic mega collection but they couldn't get it to work right.

Plus I would imagine it would be diffcult to get an emu to sync with a newly encoded high quality fmv. I know chrono trigger on ps1 used an emu, but I belive it was a custom emu specifically for the game. So you figure pc code is easier to port as well it's possible they have the source for that one.

Except that Tekken's gameplay is still linear. The notion of 3D is not part of the game, you just change planes and fight linearly. No polygon fighter has 3D integrated into the gameplay as much as VF has. For the SC fans, Soul Calibur has very rudimentary 3D elements as part of the gameplay, nowhere near the same level as VF.
