I'm in a pickle now after updating my PC to windows 7 because my old video capture card doesn't work with it. I have tried two different copies of the DC-HA1 better known as hd70a. It can do full HD and take SD images via S-Video and composite. It turns out that it's a Chinese made heap of shit. The drivers are F*ing pathetic and do not work. So one got sent back to a store in Osaka and another to Amazon Japan. And yes I did use the latest drivers from the makers homepage but they did nothing at all. So I'm on the look out for a good quality video capture card that will work with Windows 7 64 bit. Taking Standard Deff is most important for me but one that can take HD as well is a bonus. Without a capture card there'll be no more Retro Core :crying:
Yep, I used the Intensity Pro, needs a PCI-e slot and youre good. Does 480i,720p, and 1080i, both NTSC and PAL. Can do Svideo if you make a cable or buy a 5$ wire, component, and composite video. Has video passthrough as well so you can hook it up to a TV and play without any lag (which happens on HD video if youre computer isnt fast enough, although I rarely had issues).
Excelent guys. Just found one on Yahoo auctions. I went for the. PCI-express version. I don't like those USB capture devices at all. The one I'm getting has no S-Video cable though so I'll need to get or make one. Yakumo
Yep, I do. Yakumo, make sure you got the Intensity Pro, and not the normal Intensity. Intensity Pro should come with a breakout cable with component input which also works for composite. Svideo needs a cable to split the connector into 2 rca jacks, which then plug into two of the ports on the breakout cable. The manual is available for free online from the Blackmagic site.
Yeah, it's the pro mate and does have those cables. So I will have to make the S-video? I'll check out the manual. It shouldn't be hard to splice a few cables together. Yakumo
I made one myself, its simple. If not, you should be able to buy a cheap one online no problem. It takes the Y/C lines I believe from the Svideo and puts it into the RCA jacks.
I was looking at those today. I don't know if they're coming out with a newer version of those yet. I think i5's and i7's are, like, the latest and greatest and the current Mac Pros of some Xenon something or other, I don't know what they are. I'll probably just wait for the next revision. I need a new Mac so bad. They're just so pricy. The Mac Pros that is. The iMacs aren't too bad.
There are rumors for a new Mac Pro this summer. It'd be the quickest turnaround between revisions yet if it happens. Mine is still from 2006, and holding up relatively well. USB ports have gotten a bit buggy, but they've been abused for 5 years now, and it still works enough (one of the ports on the front is messed up basically). Ive got two Radeon 5770's in it now, 1 in OSX, and Crossfire for Windows, which is great. And Yakumo, yep, it looks like a proper cable
I would love to get a mac book pro for video editing but their just so damn exepensive. Plus I heard the newest version of final cut pro is a disaster. I ended up getting an hp envy 14 consider the specs and price I have been satisfied. By the way I am also wondering as well, not to change the focus of the topic, what would be a good usb video capture device since I use a laptop now?
Same one I have too Yakumo. If you need any help setting it up, lemme know. The control panel this installs (inside the windows control panel) and the software itself must be set to the same resolution. Be aware of that, it was a real headache for hours when I installed mine the first time. Even if you are using another program to capture (like Virtualdub), be sure they are set to the same resolution or it won't work. Also Yakumo, you might want to check this topic: http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?p=1306974&postcount=595 I have a couple posts in there which might be interesting for Intensity owners
Good read Dot50Cal. Thanks for the link. I'm very glad you told me about the resolution. thatwould have had me stumped for hours too.
So you can capture from HD sources using HDMI...how does it handle AACS content? Not to pirate movies mind you. My display is 1200p but doesn't support AACS and thus I'm stuck at 1080i/720p for most games over component. Would be nice to use such a card as a passthrough and fulfill my needs for generalized video capture.
Any sort of copy protection and I'd be weary. The card doesn't handle HDCP, but I dont know whats involved with AACS. Ive never had trouble playing DVDs I think, but I cant remember trying that much.
According to the specs it can record Xbox 360 games over HDMI just fine but NOT PS3. It won't do protected Blueray or TV over HDMI but should do DVD according to the Japanese info. I want to know if you can record an analogue signal in 1080p / i. That would be very cool if it did it well. I could then make Retro Core in HD
You should be able to record in 1080i (1080p is usually reserved for the newer devices, but they've been changing stuff around), assuming its over component or whatever. Youll be able to record 360 games over HDMI (So long as its not a Slim, which Ive seen someone say has HDCP on all the time, but I cannot confirm that), just not movies or anything protected.
Whoops yes I meant HDCP. AACS is disc level encryption used on Blu.-ray discs. Probably should just get a HDCP stripper
