Now, since Great Saint Louis asked for some actual reasons, besides my humour (offensive humour, no less), I will give a few reasons why, in my opinion, the corporation that is Wal-Mart sucks so very much. So, without further ado... :smt023 #1. The main problem I personally have with Wal-Mart is the way they take over small towns/areas, put in one of their ugly super-centers, and claim they are helping the populous with jobs etc. The fact is, they either pay off local authorites/building associations, or they just muscle in, because what is Citizen X going to do against mighty Wal-Mart? They simply put their damn stores wherever they please, whenever they please, with no stopping. And when someone finally does get them the hell out of town, they act as if they are completely innocent. #2. Exploitation. Now, the reason why they try to set up in small towns, is the fact that people generally need jobs. So Wal-Mart is so kind to supply them. Except for the fact the jobs they give them are terrible, and they are simply in the area because it is cheap for them. I don't know the exact specifications of what working at Wal-Mart gives you, but it's hardly what their advertisements make it out to be. "Wal-Mart" a great place to start your [dead end] career [and make us money]. 3. Semi false advertising, in my opinion. The fact is, when it comes down to it, Wal-Mart's prices are typically around 50 cents lower than the competition's. In the case of a new PS2/Xbox/GC game, they will be 4 cents lower. Yes, technically this is lower, but it's hardly as drastic as their ads would have you believe. Considering the Wal-Mart slogan is "Low Prices Always" I think it's a bit fake. So, that's some constructive criticism of Wal-Mart. I don't like the way they kick all the little guys out, and barrel through small town after small town. And by the way, the Wal-Mart in my city (Philadelphia) really is that disgusting. I am not joking. It is an absolute mess. :smt067 Original Text, in small font, for those who wish to read it: Yes it does, as discussed in another thread. And since everyone just has so much love for good ol' Wally's, I'm taking Saiyan's suggestion and making a Wal*Mart blows/sucks/takes it in the ass thread. And here are the reasons why. Feel free to add all your reasons too. Reason 1: Those damned advertisments, with the stupid fucking rednecks saying we shop at Wal*Mart 'cause we save money! Guess what assholes! You save fucking 54 cents, because Wal*Mart has to be queer and make their prices 44.46! Fuck Wal*Mart for making my pocket heavier Reason 2: Look at the fucking entry way to Wal*Mart. Shit, it looks like the bottom of a fucking public shitter! I bet you homeless people wouldn't sleep on that shit! Reason 3: As you enter the door, you are attacked by a multitude of diseases, not to mention the horrible, horrible smell of that shit ass food from McD's. I had to beat back herpes with one of those 4.97 umbrellas! Reason 4: The general (dumpy ass) people that shop there! The US populous that is too dumb to realize they are saving 54 cents, and shortening their lifespan by 5 years! Reason 5: Wal*Mart constructs these ugly ass places all over the fucking country. Hell, they'd fucking build one in the middle of the street if they were allowed! They fucking run into dumbass dead end small towns, employ the retarted people (exploitation, btw) there for minumum wage, and milk the land dry. But ah, fuck it, at least I can go get some fucking (dirty) clothes! Reason 6: Hygiene. As mentionied before, these shit houses don't meet public health standards. I would not be surprised to find used condoms in the condom boxes. Reason 7: Fucking organisation! What the fuck is wrong with these assholes! I went to Wal*Fart about a year ago to get a PC game, and they were fucking thrown in a jumbled pile on the rack. Get with the program retards: people with an iq higher than 6 will not fucking sift through your shit, if you're not gonna put it up like a real store. This ain't new fellas--this is how businessworks, so the consumer is happy. But I expect most of the people shopping there are happy because they save 56 cents to go buy some fish bait and some chewin' tobacky. Reason 8: They spawned Target and K Mart. K Mart is worse, Target is better, but they are still last resorts for shopping. There it is Wal*Mart. Fucking blow me, why don't you.
heh, i dont know where you live, but my local walmart is super clean, and that 5 thing... every single company does that.
Wow, how do you really feel? Guess this makes my family a bunch of herpes-infested stupid fucking rednecks, too dumb to realize we're saving 54 cents and in general, dumpy-ass people. I was really trying hard to find a nugget of intelligence in the post, such as their anti-union stance or their labor practices, but found nothing. I thought it was supposed to be about WalMart, not tearing apart the people that shop there, but maybe I was mistaken...
Haha, it was more of a joke than anything else. As the other post was going off kilter a bit. Actually, amazingly enough, my local Wal*Mart is like that. Sans redneck portion, but it is disgusting. Not meant to offend anybody, just a kinda lame joke filled with swear words. ;-) :-(
It can't be THAT bad! Is your Wal-Mart really that bad? I like Wal-Mart. I shop there all the time, and it seems really clean to me.
I though it was hilarious i was looking for a good laugh today :smt043 :smt043 , but suprisinly there are clean walmarts around(the one i got my ds is suprisingly clean) but i dont care really, i perfer target myself, but damn that was a hilarious rant einbebop44. Greatsaintlouis its not a knock on every person who shops there, but there is a walrmart in my area that ftts a perfect description of what einbebop44 described(baisicly hes making fun of the stereotypical walmart, which is not that uncommon, but even then there are the clean ones), but if thats where you want shop then go right ahead i could care less and im not gonna judge you or assume your the stereotype. I suggested this thread since the other one was going off topic with slander against walmart, so i said why dont we have a walmart sucks thread since i thought it would be hilarious and einbebop44 fullfilled my expectations. :smt043 :smt043 :smt043 All seriousness aside its no knock on every single person who shops at walmart, its just a joke on stereotypical walmarts, and the fact that walmarts have scaringly been poping up more and more.
Well glad to see one person took it as it was intented. I've added some real reasons why Wal-Mart sucks, not why my cities' Wal-Mart sucks. :smt033 Original text is there for those that want it. In size 1 font, so you can ignore it if you want. Just copy and paste and enlarge if you feel the need to read it. :-D :smt023
my answers to your things: 1: so what? fuck small towns is good for them, cheap prices. 2: every company does that.... so i dont know why you are saying this 3: um normal dvds @ bestbuy are 20 bucks and @ walmart 15 um....
Your first post was funny, but I am glad you did a serious one as well, seeing as it reminded me of something that happened not to long ago where I live. I used to work at a grocery store. In fact, there were two grocery stores where I live and a regular Wal-Mart, not one of the super centers. Both grocery stores did very well, but then the Wal-Mart Super Center came along. The groceries at Wal-Mart were much cheaper than the prices at both of the "local" grocery stores, so they both started losing customers to Wal-Mart. I still remember the opening day of the Super Center. I went into work, and it was dead. We had two, maybe three customers every hour or so. Also, it was very quiet, like how a bomb hits and all is silent afterward. Well our store was hit with a bomb, and that bomb was Wal-Mart. Within a week the head managers for the company that owned our store were down doing an "inspection". Three people were laid off, and some were fired. Also, everyone's hours had been cut drastically. I went from having almost 30 hours a week to 10 hours. It wasn't worth it, so I quit. I didn't really care though because I loathed my job anyway, but I just thought I would share a first hand example of Wal-Mart kicking the "little guy" to the curb.
1. How is it good for them? That Wal-Mart ruins the landscape, brings one of their ugly ass buildings in there, and then leaves if the market isn't up to what they want it to be? 2. Go to a small town, in any part of the US, and what are you more than likely to see (if there is a shopping center) a Wal-Mart. They mine the locals for jobs, giving them low wages, and claim that it is better for them. Of course, Wal-Mart doesn't help them actually advance at all, do they? No... 3. Games: 49.96 at Wal-Mart. 49.99 at Toys R Us. All the new DVDs I've seen on Wal-Mart's webpage are regularly priced, akin to Best Buy. Heck, Best Buy may be better to buy at, as they have numerous rebates etc. in effect. Just saw AWS's post. Another reason why Wal-Mart sucks: the fact that they actually destroy the American dream, which is a sort of entrepeneurial adventure, where people can come and make a living for themselves. Well, that was the original idea, anyway. :-(
I don't live in a small town either, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't care about them. Pretty soon, Wal-Mart will be really fucking with the big cities too, more than their few super centers scattered about our urban sprawl. :angry
Let me give you the lowdown from a political perspective (seeing as though I'm a future *gasp* politician): Wal-Mart makes a business of circumventing the authority of the people to decide where businesses may be set up, almost to the point of bribing city officials in order to avoid putting the choice up for a referendum vote. This is horrible, in my opinion, because it places the sanctity of local business below the wishes of those that have the money. Case in point: My in-laws are located in an already boisterous community insofar as retail density is concerned. Wal-Mart decided they wanted a "big box" (i.e. a SuperCenter) not even 2,500 feet from their home. Wal-Mart was able to successfully circumvent any public notice on the issue and build their SuperCenter without ANY local voice in the process. While they have been told off by some communities by either a vote or by City Council, in others they are able to essentially buy off the community leaders [in the name of money in the city coffers] in order to develop the land in any way they see fit without interference from the community itself. Now, how f'd up is that? VERY f'd up, and I'm a frickin' pro-free market Libertarian for chrissakes. For that reason -- and many others -- I refuse to ever go to Wal-Mart, no matter how drastically reduced their prices may be. They essentially seek a status above other comparable businesses and will not relent even if the said community does NOT want a Wal-Mart in their area. Despicable. The ONLY reason Wal-Mart is able to reduce their prices by pennies (sometimes more, but not by much) is through volume purchasing. This, of course, gives them an advantage because Wal-Mart is so large and ubiquitous that some companies RELY on Wal-Mart for their business as it is already. This means that Wal-Mart can essentially make or break their entire company should the provider of goods decide not to budge on their price point. This is simply predatory and disingenuous toward the entire free-market process. [Did I mention the legion of lawsuits in regards to inequality and harassment in the workplace? How about locking down their employees at night, or perhaps that they used to take out life insurance policies on their employees and collect the death benefits in cash? Is that enough reason to stop shopping at Wal-Mart yet? Don't believe me? Go search for yourself.] Now, is the answer in government intervention? No, I don't see it as that. Rather, I encourage people opposed to this to vote with their dollars and support other businesses more invested in their community in order to demonstrate their commitment to choice in the free market and to become more vocal in their local community activities. Simply put, there are more reasons NOT to shop Wal-Mart than there are TO shop there. DEMAND social consciousness in the companies you patronize, and perhaps you'll see a company that plays by the rules -and- offers you better prices in the future. I hope this resonates with some of you the next time you notice the next hot game is priced $0.50 lower than, say, your local game shop, or even eBay [of all places]. If you shop Wal-Mart, you're part of the problem, rather than part of the solution. einbebop44 is on the right track, needless to say.
Hilarious :smt043 Compared to similar unionionized companies Wal Marts pay and benefits are awful, those bastards violate employee rights which have drawed repeated convictions and fines. In some business magazine Wal Mart was applauded because of this. And then theres the cheap Chinese labour plants Wal Mart supports where employees are paid $20 a week and forced to work in inhumane conditions. These assholes belong to be out of business.
Underexposed+, don't forget how they refused to put a maple leaf between 'Wal' and 'Mart' when they first invaded Canada wit their gaudy ugly as stores (no uglier than other such chains to be fair) but instead placed a dash... AND MORE INSULTINGLY and how they recently not only refused to place a maple leaf between the two words again, but have replaced the dash with the star (from the stars and stripes) of the US stores. WHat the fuck is up with that, and who the hell in Canadian government let them get away with that bullshit? Other US franchises are only too glad to display the Maple Leaf in Canada - McDonald's, Safeway, and 7-11 come to mind. Who the hell do Wal-Mart think they are?
Let's not forget hiring illegal aliens, pooling to drive out competition, using the California gorcery store strike last year to thier own advantage, etc. Undersexposed pretty much summed it up why Walmart sucks donkey logs. The thing is it is possible to stop them. Last year the people out here in Inglewood stopped a Walmart superstore. Can't find a picture of the Walmart near the ruins of Teotihuacán (the pre-Aztec city of the sun) but I've seen it in the newspaper. The store is about 1.5 km away. But it didn't look that way in the picture. What I saw was a big huge superstore cutting off the view of an ancient pre-Columbian temple. Also heard that they paved right over a couple of archeological sites. Fucking travesty.
hmm someone told me once that Wal-mart smuggles drugs into the country for the cartels inside the chrome tubes of these crappy bikes they sell.
