That's right, I'm looking for THIS. These were likely never built as 'working' controllera and probably only as a demo. Still, I'm an enormous Playstation fan and I'm looking to own a Prototype Boomerang controller. PM please! :) OR E-MAIL @ Pirannahrocks@live.fr [IMG]

I have never seen one of those outside of the PS3 reveal at E3, It's probably either in a museum, at Sony still, is owned by a millionaire or was destroyed.

Just like plenty of prototype items, no?

I'm sure at least a few of these were made. Anyways I still really want one, been lusting over this since it was first announced ( sort of sad when it got trashed ).

Also, millionaire? Lol this is so not worth millions :p

I'm afraid they just don't exist, the only prototypes you get around here are tech demos or betas at the rarest, whereas that controller was a mock up that was used to highlight the fact that it was an all new system (because the PS2 has the PS controller and apparently Ken Kutaragi wanted something different for the PS3), but it was poorly received and scrapped soon afterwards, so after that who knows what happened to it? But I am 99% certain that only one was made, and the only way you would of found one today was if the original Dev Kits included that controller but as far as I know it was dualshock from day one of manufacture.

Would be nice if they existed. It also would have been nice if they went for the clear plastic buttons on the Dualshock 3.

I'm still going to look :)

If somebody managed to finally find a SNESCD prototype controller, I'm sure there's gotta be one of these somewhere...

There are no SNES CD controllers. Only the early six button PlayStation controller. The difference being that those went out to developers, it isn't clear if the boomerang went past being a mockup. That said, nothing is impossible, it just won't be cheap if it does appear

The SNESCD proto did sell for a little under 400$ a few years back... i'll be glad to pay a f few hundred for the boomerang too.

Not a SNESCD prototype. That's a playstation prototype, without a space.

The image you posted look fake.

I've never seen one. Even if someone would sell it here, it would cost way more than 400$.

Itchy, it isn't fake, they've been sold from 400-800$+ over the years. Here is the "final" version of that controller with all of the markings:

Wow that 6 button controller looks awesome! much more traditional than the dualshock ones but I can't imagine playing Gran Turismo on one haha
I wonder how long Sony were planning on shipping that controller? Because I never really liked the Playstation controller and it only made sense to me once they added the dual thumbsticks.

I'm still wildly surprised with the modern rapid prototyping resources out there that no one's started making functional repros of hardware that never existed (or may never have reached functional status)...

Making one of those boomerang controllers would be cool, and might actually have a chance at selling on the market. I'm sure if someone had the money to try it out it would be an interesting thing to do.

But, getting the innards of a PS3 controller to fit into that oddly shaped shell would be a pain, especially the battery. Also, there doesn't seem to be any shots of the back, which has the USB and triggers. No idea how those would look.

Although- holy crap it's tiny... just ran across this photo...

If it was more or less normal size, maybe it'd be doable...
