Booting a Saturn CDR is different on older and nwer Saturns. SAlso there are two types of disc swap. Some games need to be read twice before swaping a disc others only once. It all sounds confusing but I have NEVER had a CDR that won't boot through a disc swap trick if you know what you are doing. Old methods say watch the access lights for a guide but that'sa load of crap. You must listen to the drive's motor to know when to swap the disc. Also NO Saturn CDR game has mixed audio tracks like a PSX does unless it's burned wrong. This is because first the Saturn reads the CDR tracks, then looks for the protection data. This is where you take out the CDR and put in an original. After the Saturn has read the protection data ring you take out the original and put the CDR back in. THis is why Saturn CDR games always have perfect audio tracks. THe saturn only reads the data protection ring on the original disc, nothing more.

    How about that?

Take an old Saturn demo disc, cut out a circular area, burn a CD with your favourite game, cut exact the same circular area, stick them both together correctly (copied CD-R part in the place where you cut out the big part except protection ring in demo disc) and it should work flawlessly, as I think the protection ring is not aligned to the data tracks.

Of course, you need the correct tools to cut an exact circular area

    Other than that:
If the protection ring is just a certain light reflection, I may be able to recreate it on a CD-R

Actually no. The early bootlegs were just that. A silver and a cut demo cd.

If I ever have the chance to create a pirate CD/DVD production facility in China (I really plan doing something similar *g*), guys, I will think of you all and produce some Saturn selfbootable CD-Rs with that ring.

After 15 years of the Saturns introduction...hehe

Sad part is that Datel has been doing that for a long time (cutting and pasting CD's)!

    Crazy taxi anyone?

I find that hard to believe. I find even more difficult to believe that it would actually work.

I know that, it was done for PS2 self-bootable.

But they cut it and reproduced it, so they not really cut them, they just sticked them to create the stamper

Games can (and do) check the copy protection more than once.

Because if that was the only protection don't you think there would have been HK factories pumping out millions of these?

No, I don't. Didn't happen on the Playstation either. I'm also more inclined to trust published documents than wild forum speculation.

Hey guys, if you want to know who to boot a Saturn CDR then I'll make a video. Saturn games only check for the protective ring once. Thus making every Saturn CDR bootable. THere is one odd point though. For some reason Virtua Fighter 2 or was it Virtua Fighter 1 has problems booting CDR games. Not sure why.
