What is your dream object? Rules for your posting: - It can only be ONE thing. Not "all video games" or "all sportscars made by Lamborghini" - You have $1,000,000,000 but not all of it needs to be spent. - It's NOT an investment to earn more money, just spend it! What would I buy? Well, you can buy every rare single object in the entire world for that money, so it's really up to my personal preference. If I had to choose one object in the entire world, I may bought this car: A Bugatti Type 57SC "Atlantic" According to Wikipedia, there are only two cars in existence left: One is owned by Ralph Lauren and the other one got sold to a museum for $30-40 million dollars. Not sure if $1bil could convince Ralph Lauren, given he already has $6.5 billion. But maybe the museum would sell for that money - they could buy every other rare car in the world from the surplus lol.
A good investment in a computer tech company. That way I can have them research some new tech for my home supercomputer concept design.
Don't tell me about investments. That's not the point of this entire idea... of course I wouldn't spend my entire billion on a car, I'd invest it in stocks and real estate. But what a fun answer is that?
my city and country is in deep shit, i would buy an asset that would allow me to give work to many people.
You missed the point. I'd buy it to build my dream design personal super computer. Complete with several rack mount servers. Maybe it can hit 100 PetaFLOPs when fully loaded.
A Ferrari California or a DeLorean. I would have to think about which one first... But of course I would buy a Philips factory to make super cool CRT TVs with 4 S-Video inputs at minimum. And yes, I prefer Philips over that plaything-maker brand. 1 Billion is just too much. I feel that a lot of crazy people would want to "revive teh Dreamcast" with that money. =P
Buy an old missile silo, something larger than a Minuteman or Nike so I'd actually have some space. Furnish it with a decent road system, very high speed internet access, hydroponic food maybe. Sounds a bit "end of the world crazy" but I like the security it provides, the temperature controlled nature as well as being able to grow uncommon food stuffs like wasabi and maybe truffles. Also raves.
If I had $1 billion, I would buy tons of stuff - I could probably buy everything I've ever wanted with some change left over for just a few million. But if I had to spend it all at once, I'd probably buy some kind of manned spacecraft. Not sure what spaceships cost at the moment, but I bet I could get something for $1 billion. That or a large island in the Pacific. Or maybe an F14 fighter jet.
I don't know man, space shuttles are the only reusable space modules to date and they are pretty outdated. Every single space shuttle mission has been estimated to cost $1.5 billion dollars... guess you'd need to get a loan on top of the $1 billion
I'd either buy an island so I can have a place to really get away to... or throw it all at a group of smart people to get some random impossible task completed to better mankind.
Now this is a thread I can get down on!... however I'm not sure if I could ever decide. I really really like Karsten's idea. Bravo.
This, or something expensive that I could resell and keep the cash from (I am under the impression this 1bil buys you something and you return the change)
LOL. Count me in, I don't even get the fuss. For me, probably a fully working life size, life like Power Girl I can legally marry. - Just kidding! A huge house for me.
A trip to the moon? (not sure what that would actually cost). EDIT: Hmm $1.5 billion apparently. Anyone want to go splitsies? http://www.complex.com/tech/2012/12/a-trip-to-the-moon-could-cost-you-15-billion
