The Gabriel Knight games were a very good adventure series, especially the first which is one of my favorite adventure games of all time. Also, if you have the patience some of the older sierra adventures(graphics, but with text input) are pretty good. I could go on and on about games like thief, system shock, deus ex(don't think it would run on the laptop though), and ultima underworld, but instead I'll just say that if you don't play them you are missing some of the finest games ever produced. Especially Deus Ex :love2:
A true classic of PC gaming that I still play these days, albeit maybe twice a year. Xenon 2. It is a solid enough shooter, but it does require a different approach from most shooters. Anyway it still looks quite impressive these days and runs at a really good speed on my XP laptop. It is an odd game in that it starts quite hard and gets dramatically easier as you power up your craft. Once you have the drone so you can shoot diagonally it really makes the middle game easier, but then it comes back to hurt you in the final levels. Anyway there are not many games out there where I can die on the first level without too much bother, but still 1cc the game without breaking a DDP sweat. If you haven't played it yet, then please do so.
X-wing and assorted sequels (Tie fighter, X-wing vs. Tie fighter, etc.) Quest for glory series was always good. Dark Forces I & II Hexen, Heretic Command & Conquer: Yuri's Revenge, the greatest game ever made. Anyone who doesn't think so is lame.

SilverBolt: if you get problems with your old DOS gaming pc, then VOGONS http://vogons.zetafleet.com/index.php would be an excelent place to get some help
Vogons? 'Vogons are extremely ugly, extremely officious, and generally not much fun to be around.' I wouldn't want help from them...
Ok, that is not my feeling of the place. So why are you not fond of them ? Since I think they are quite polite as long you obey the rules. So I have no idea what you mean. So what is the reason, why you don´t like them ? I am a bit dumbfounded by your statement. And a bit miffed, since that confuses me. And because they are "ugly", then it doesn´t mean they aren´t resourceful, and very informative. So I am lost in your comment mate. Heck those I have helped untill now are quite happy, that I have helped them. So I have no freaking idea, or what you mean. Since when ASSEMbler has one of his first forums, where I was a member then it was "ugly" too. But still looks isn´t anything compared to what they can offer. Why are they officious ? since that shouldn´t be any bad thing. But please explain yourself. Since I am quite confused about your comment. And to me looks isn´t everything. So please explain mate
Seconding, thirding, fourthing, etc for this game. TIE Fighter is a classic. Get the Collector's Edition (CD version) if you can. If it hasn't been said (probably has by either AntiPasta or GreatSaintLouis), download Tyrian 2000. It's free and it's an incredible game.
Vogons are the bad guys from The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy, that's the description the book gives of them. Which if you haven't read it then you owe it to yourself go stop what you're doing, right now, and go read it. That was the first book to actually make me laugh out loud while reading it.
Well, I know I should read that trilogy of five books. But I had no clue, that the_steadster was making a joke. Since I know about the book trilogy. But I haven´t read it. So that is why I was dumbfounded.

And weird too. Apparently it is meant to come together and make sense in the end....... if you get that far whilst retaining your sanity! ;-)
oh my lord, I have found an assload of "new" abandonware game sites lately. But anyway here is a sweet site dealing in remakes of old games. And well, I felt the site belonged here. Retro Remakes http://www.retroremakes.com Anyway, as I have said before. I feel it is time to get this thread as a sticky. After all, it is an ancient thread, which I revive every now and then, so here is my plee to the moderators. Please makes this thread a sticky.
Yes, personally I would definitely recommend Roberta Williams' The Colonel's Bequest. It's a murder mystery, released in 1989. If you want more info, you should check out our unofficial fan-site(I'm creating this site with a friend) . It's probably still my favourite Sierra game ever, I didn't like its sequel The Dagger of Amon Ra, though. Another personal favorite is Sierra's Jones in the Fast Lane, it's a VGA, mouse-operated boardgame. I thought it's briliant and I still play it often. I used to be a real Sierra fanboy back in the days.
I think gorillas.bas is a must have (you will need qbasic.exe to run it) http://devzone.wsnw.net/downloads/misc/gorillas.bas
