My uni named all its servers after Lord of the Rings characters. Techies who shout "Bilbo's down again" really have no idea how horrifically nerdy they sound.

ugh...

i usually just give stuff a random name whatever happens to pop in my mind at the time, aside phones and just i never use which i just name more creatively

PC = kaori
laptop = seira
phone = junkage
ps2 tool = unit-01
retail ps2 = <ip address> <-- not like i had a choice
psp and ps3 are never networked or anything so no names for those.

aside that it's just the HDD's i keep naming after what's in them but i can't see that being too rare
