The title pretty much says it all. What one video game do you think gamers should play before they die? It can be any game from any home console, arcade, computer, whatever. I'm curious to see the different answers or the same, whatever the case may be. My pick is:

    Final Fantasy VII

Most people love this game or think it's overated. I loved it. I got so pulled into the story when I first played it when it was released. I think it has so much going for it as an RPG and all gamers should check it out.

Not to sound like an elitist bastard but....

EDIT: Well, in all seriousness, I'd probably say the Team ICO games are games you need to play at least once before you die.

And I might as well say it now:

    In before Nights

FF7 is basically a remake of FF6. Proof:

Only difference is that Nomura killed off Aerith because he wanted to change the main love interest. It somewhat backfired, and made many people think a really boring unoriginal villain like Sephiroth was so awesome. And I hate how everyone thinks his one wing is a super awesome and deep symbol.

You're not one of those guys who still thinks Sephiroth is the best villain ever....are you?

No, I not that hardcore into it. It's just my opinion that's all. I believe it was a great game. By no means do I think it's the best game but I think people should try it.

The only game a person should play before they die is the one they like...

Shadow of the Colossus or Ico. Possibky Okami. Its kind of a tough choice, as most of those games are different from the norm. SOTC might be a good choice, because it can be considered art. I didn't really want to choose something else that might be considered "Cookie-Cutter" even if I really liked the game, if you know what I mean.

Besides...a dying person probably wouldn't have time to finish FF7!

On a side note, I really liked Arc the Lad 1 and 2, but it takes about 100 hours altogether. The story kept me entertained at least. The 4 main generals were more evil than some of the higher up bad guys, if you've played it and are familiar with it.

Sorry to jump on you about the FF7 thing, I'm just bitter that the Oblivion modding community is chock full of goth shop clothes, Buster Sword and Masamune clones, rather than anything original and / or neat looking. I can't tell you the amount of Sephiroth on Oblivion youtube videos I've seen.

    EDIT:

Some other games worth mentioning: Wind Waker, OoT, and the first few Final Fantasy games that still have a semblance of Western Role playing elements in them I found really entertaining, like FF1-FF5. FF6 had a really good story, but it introduced Tank-Wizards, which is something that makes the game a little boring. (No specialized classes) FF5 was borderline Tank-Wizardry, but you at least had limits.

It's cool man. That's the beauty of opinions, they can be so different. I feel you on the force feeding of FF VII stuff everywhere. I'm a fan of the Final Fantasy series but even I think it's too much. I do like Arc The Lad a lot but I never played the second one.

    :eek:h:

    PLAY IT!

The first game feels like a really long intro compared to Arc the Lad 2. It took me over 90 hours to beat the story at a steady pace, and if I recall correctly, they scaled everything so you have to do minimal grinding for levels. I really like the story, by the time I busted into the evil Imperial City I HATED everyone there. They're like Neo-Nazis in a way.

Arc the Lad 3 is ok, but not as good as 2. Arc the Lad 2 even allows you to catch monsters and use them, which is kinda fun to do.

The Anime is "Decent" as well. Its kind of weird though, its all PG and light hearted for the most part, but episode 13 (or was it 12...) is really depressing and R rated almost. I heard some guy who claimed he helped publish it say he told them it was PG and then told them what happens in that episode, and many heads were turned and they said "Say whaaaat?" and he topped if off with "And these guys work in an anime publishing industry":icon_bigg

Panzer Dragoon Saga or Radiant Silvergun.

Both transcend their respective genres.

In so far as Sakaguchi RPGs:
Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger, and Lost Odyssey. The end.

Edit: Actually, I might just have to add Lost Odyssey to the "must play" list as well. The writing in it destroys damn near anything I've ever seen in an RPG.

I was just gonna say FFVII just out of spite.. but then again, I've never actually played it! I gotta give it its due and leave it be from such naysaying.

Now, If I had played it and disliked it, then I'd mention it here. ;)

Otherwise, I don't believe I've played enough games .. genres .. to justify an answer here. :|
